At least 30 pilgrims have been killed by a female suicide bomber south of Baghdad, Iraqi police say.
At least 25 people were also injured in the attack in Iskandiriya, 40km (25 miles) south of Baghdad.
The blast targeted Shia pilgrims, many of whom have been travelling south to the city of Karbala to take part in an annual religious ceremony.
It is the third day of attacks on Shia pilgrims, with dozens killed in Baghdad and Mosul.
The Iskandiriya attack happened despite increased security along the route.
Most of the dead were women and children, police said.
A police captain told AFP news agency that the bomber had hidden explosives under an abaya, the traditional head-to-toe black garment, and blown herself up among the crowd just after midday (0900 GMT).
Hundreds of thousands of Shia have been converging on Karbala in recent days, to celebrate Arbaeen - the end of symbolic mourning for the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussein, whose shrine is in the city.
Allah will be pleased ...lots of women and children killed in his name.

What must have been going through this woman's head just before she blew herself up knowing that she was going to kill all the women and children around her?
In what way was this going to do any good or prove any point or fight the infidel?
Did she think that Allah would approve?
What of the men who made her do this? Are they happy now?
I realize, of course, that it's clearly all the West's fault...I just don't quite see how.

blame bush ,blair and of course thatcher. Bush/Blair are certainly responsible for destroying the secular regime of Saddam Hussein under which these religious excesses were totally unknown. |

There was no internal strife on a scale to justify an immensely more destructive attack, with all the predictable consequences for Iraqis, death, wounds, disease, displacement, chaotic lawlessness and disorder. |

She was probably thinking she was about to do the noblest thing a Muslim can do - Jihad, and there'd be rewards waiting for her when she meets "Allah" in heaven. She obviously did. |

Before 2003, Saddam - the good Muslim Socialist - massacred hundreds of thousands of people, mostly non-Sunnis. In doing so, he faithfully grafted Socialist principles to Jihadist thought, resulting in killing that was one-way traffic. Since 2003, Baathist Socialism has been toppled. Free of the artifical creation of the Baathist Socialist government, Muslims have been returned to their natural state, and we are finding that both Sunnis and Shiites are enjoying equal opportunity to slaughter each other - a tradition with a 1400 year history. And both sides have exploited their new opportunities the fullest. |

As an armchair mass-murderer you may find this very gratifying, but it doesn't provide a justification for the illegal US/UK invasion of 2003.
