So. What do we make of this? Anything? This is about 5,000 real votes, much bigger than any opinion poll. If the Tories are, like their cheerleaders try to pretend, rolling inevitably towards power shouldn't they be taking votes of Labour in places like this, rather than the other way round? Cannock West: 10% swing, Conservative to Labour Waddon (Croydon): 1% swing, Lab to Con Enfield (London): 4% swing Con to Labour Labour defied the trend to make its first council by-election gain of 2009.
Candidate Rohini Simbodyal snatched a seat from Tories at Jubilee ward in north London's Enfield Borough.
This cuts Conservatives' majority on the authority to three.
Tories defended another marginal in the capital when they won at Waddon, Croydon Borough.
But, in a big shift to Labour, Conservatives saw their majority slashed at Cannock West in Staffordshire's Cannock Chase District.www.24dash.com/news/Local_Government/2009-02-13-Labour-take-Tory-seat-in-latest-council-by-elections

shame we dont acutally have a prty capable of challenging these two parties. Labour dont deserve more time in power, and Maggie cocked up the conservatives for a good while longer. I think we are bout to witness the largest voter apathy this country has ever seen

We could do with PR in Britain.
A coalition of Labour, Lib Dem, Green, SNP, Plaid, Respek etc. Keeping the Tory / UKIP / BNP coalition out of power for eternity.

I predict a massive swing away from the Tories toward NuImproved.
No two ways about it, the public are clearly onside with Gordon's masterful handling of the economy, his dominant position as a leader on the world stage, his charisma at the despatch box, and his "I'm on your side" empathy with those about to lose their jobs and/or their homes.
Yep - five more years please. Election NOW!

Silly billy.
Don't you find it even mildly surprising? Labour, we're told by some people, are finished. The Tories, we're told by some people, are marching unstoppably to power.
Yet here we have real voters in some key areas disagreeing.

Apart from that details are a bit sparse. Wonder if we'll be looking a voting irregularities this time next week. For sure nu labour won't be gaining any seats in parliament at the next election without some.

Hmm, I see the boundary changes in Suffolk and Norfolk, creating new unitary authorities, which have prompted mass opposition from all areas outside of Ipswich and Norwich, have been put back yet again. What a shame that the people of Lowestoft will have to wait a bit longer to make the move to Norfolk, which is goiing down like a lead balloon. Hazel Blears was supposed to make a decision on 31st December, which then got put back to mid February. Now the decision has been deferred until July......well after the next round of local elections. Well, there's a surpise, eh?
