"A British servicewoman has given birth to a baby boy while serving in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defence said the soldier - who is understood to have been unaware of her pregnancy - had a son at Camp Bastion on Tuesday.
Both mother and baby are in a stable condition and are due to be flown home in the coming days after a specialist medical team from the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford arrives in the Helmand Province base."<CLICK>That should make for a memorable tour of duty!

Unaware she was pregnant? Takes some believing that. I know one woman who wasn't aware she was pregnant until she went into labour. Huge woman, and stupid. Surely they let big stupid people in the army.

Why? It does happen and apparently not just with fat women. I have seen enough articles about women realising they were pregnant when they were in labour. Would be horrible.

who is understood to have been unaware of her pregnancy -
Yeah, right-o love. I bet you were rather more aware of the shite you would be in if you had knowingly gone to theatre whilst up the duff or allowed yourself to become preggers prior to going on active operations. I heard on the radio this morning that well over two hundred female members of the Forces had been sent home for this condition.

there's medical term for this graviditatas ignota. [Unknown pregnancy--presentation of the case]. [Article in Serbian] Dordević M, Jovanović B, Dordević G. Source Ginekolosko-akuserska klinika, Klinicki centar Kragujevac, Kragujevac. Abstract INTRODUCTION: There are two kinds of unknown pregnancies. A denied, unknown pregnancy, graviditatas ignota, when the pregnant woman unconsciously denies the existence of the pregnancy. Contrary to the denied pregnancy there is a hidden pregnancy, a concealed pregnancy in women who know they are pregnant but actively hide their pregnancy from the family, partner, friends, teachers, colleagues, etc. The prevalence of an unknown pregnancy during the first 20 gestation weeks is 1 in 475 pregnancies, in the second half of pregnancy it is 1 in 2455 pregnancies and at the moment of delivery it is 1 in 7225. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21446106
