I love it! Trump cancelled the free trade agreement with Australia, opening the door for China to gain more economic and political power and leadership in Asia and the Pacific, now this? Australia has been too close and subservient to the US for too long. This is perfect to begin creating space between us

Trump HANGS UP on Australian PM after 'yelling' at him over refugee deal and accuses him of trying to 'ship the next Boston bombers' to the US (but did he REALLY give him the finger too?) An explosive report claims new US President Donald Trump fumed at Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull about a deal for America to take asylum seekers from Australian detention centres during the leaders' first official phone call on Saturday, then cut the call short by half its allotted time. The report, in The Washington Post, is a huge embarrassment for Turnbull, who has insisted in recent days the asylum seeker deal is solid and relations with Washington are fine. The Post report, citing anonymous Trump Administration officials, said the president (picturd left) gave Turnbull (right) a major dressing-down during a pre-arranged call that was one of several the US leader made to international leaders on Sunday, including Russian President Vladimir Putin. 'This was the worst call by far,' Trump reportedly told Turnbull. He also called the agreement struck during Barack Obama's presidency for the US to take 1,250 asylum seekers from Australian centres on Nauru and Manus Island, PNG, 'the worst deal ever' and accused Australia of trying to export 'the next Boston bombers.' Not the least most worrying thing about Trump is that he's worse at his job than Corbyn is at his. He me even be worse than I am at mine, but I haven't got nuclear strike capabilities.
I suspect, as well, Corbyn is sh*t and knows he is.

It is hilarious that the US was trying to protect Australia from its own horrible racist policies, and now the US has a racist government the Australians don't know what to do.
Trump is f**k**g terrifying. I am glad that we have moderately sane people running the dept. of defense and (to a degree) the state department.

This is just so brilliant.
Purely because the Aussies who support Trump just won't know what to think. Turnbull should speak to Ange. She would be more than happy to make a deal.

Trump will have to learn that it's in the US's best interest to keep friends with Australia. They need Australia more than Australia needs them, if only because the US needs a presence in the south china seas, and will want to put their warships into some safe port or other, probably in Australia. I did hear that one of Trump's henchman is supposed to have said they plan to go to war with China. Who knows what to believe anymore.

It may be good for Australia to stop being America's lapdog and look to building bridges in the increasingly wealthy Asia-pac region.

I agree. You're in the right place to capitalize on that too. I think you've made a very wise move van.

It sure has been a sh!t show for the first week of our glorious leader.
Laughably pathetic cabinet appointments, skipping out on a follow-up intelligent briefing after a screwed up operation that wasn't thought through to begin with, promoting Bannon over intelligence specialists, his constant crying on Twitter and during speeches supposed to be for acknowledging the CIA, black history month, censoring government orgs like the EPA and Parks Service ffs, etc. etc. The right voting in their very own President Snowflake has got to be the absolute pinnacle of irony.

If I was trying to infiltrate the US with hostile intent, the way I'd go about it is by sailing to Australia in a leaky boat, and getting interned for an indefinite period on a bleak rock in the Pacific. The Australian 'system' for dealing with 'refugees' is basically a massive conduit for ISIS direct to America! Fact!

Oh yes. Far, far easier than flying unrestricted from the UK to the new Trump/May USofA.
