Message 6059 of 12488 in Discussion
From: Banjo Sent: 11/8/2001 2:55 AM
Before Hobo could even wave Lassie was back in the Police Box and as if by magic it had disappeared ! Hobo scratched his dead, blinked and carried on down the lane, utterly perplexed. Suddenly a weird sensation spread over him. It was as though a very pleasant memory had suddenly been erased but he couldn’t remember what it was he had forgotten. He shook his head ruefully and vowed to beg at least half a dozen pints of Abbotts at the very next pub he came to !
"Time Ladies and Gentlemen IF you please !" The Landlord of the Shuckburgh Arms was becoming more than a little peeved. The Sunday morning session had gone on so long behind "closed" doors that he would barely have time to sweep the floor before opening for the evening !
Hobo was dozing and dreaming in the cosy inglenook, contented as a dog could possibly be with eight pints of Ruddles County, two pork pies, half a packet of scratchings and a pickled egg safely stowed away. Suddenly a none-too-gentle toe in the rump rudely disturbed him. "You too, old fellow ! Go on, hop it !"
Regretfully Hobo stretched, yawned and nonchalantly lifted his leg on a woman’s bare calf. A born gentleman, he politely overlooked her rude swearing as he bade the company a reluctant but dignified farewell before sedately weaving his way out into a balmy Southwick evening.
Time to plot a course. Hobo turned around and around three times, searching for inspiration then spotted an extremely blurry sign on which by squinting heavily he could just discern the legend "Glapthorn 1 ¼." Glapthorn sounded pretty good to Hobo so he followed the directions and set off cheerfully if a little unsteadily down the road.
Eight pints equals one gallon and one imperial gallon is considerably in excess of the bladder capacity of any dog, even one of Hobo’s heroic proportions. He had just stopped for the fifth time in a hundred yards to lift an urgent leg when he heard a strange screeching sound and without warning that same blasted Metropolitan Police Box as before materialised right in his line of fire !
The door banged open and a furious Lassie appeared. "You dirty old bugger," she scolded, "that damned eight day clock of yours causes nothing but trouble ! Put it away and get in you dero, our son Hank is in terrible danger and we must save him !"
Quickly, though a touch ungracefully Hobo did as he was told. The Doctor then set the coordinates for up the Khyber Pass, the blue light flashed and the Tardis was on its way !
In no time at all the tube thing stopped going up and down and the Tardis came to rest. For Hobo no time was still too much time ! He had to go again and in a hurry what’s more ! He pushed the door open, lurched outside and triumphantly threw his hind leg in the air.
Ah, blessed relief ! With the worst urgency over he gratefully examined the recipient of his friendly fire. It was a bomb ! It was a huge bomb, the biggest bomb Hobo had ever seen, probably the biggest bomb in the world ! It took up the whole load area of the American Bomber leaving only just enough room for the erratic old Tardis to materialise beside it ! Terrified Hobo had time for only one quick shake of the snake before desperately scrambling back into the Tardis just as the bomb bay doors began to open !
What to do? Hobo couldn’t speak English ! How could he alert the dithering doctor to the fact that the Tardis all its passengers had just been dropped over Afghanistan with a fully armed and primed Daisy Cutter for company?

Has anyone considered the fact that this new format is a cross between an e-mail and a reply poster? All those e-mails we were getting were failure reports stating that the mail box to which our posts had been sent was full. Who is receiving direct e-mails of every reply posted on every thread of every MSN message board in the world, and why? Are our posts being scanned for sacandalous or seditious utterances? Who has the time to read them? Who could be bothered? What does it all mean? How big is Tony Blair's todger? The answers to these and other burning questions may never be known and perhaps it's just as well !

That only occurs after certain statements, but it does occur. The world has eyes and ears indeed. It ought thank us to be so bold to say things here, you see, one doesnt need to look twice for the obvious unless one is daft. That would be Blair and all his cronies, probably the US also, but then the US wouldnt care about a silly UK board now would it?

The best remedy for a cold is this: spoon full of honey, lemon juice, sugar and hot water. Drink it while its hot, have the same before you go to bed but put a drop of whiskey in as well, you will sleep like a baby trust me.

This is a message from Jaygo's temp on behalf of Jaygo. Owing to the threat of cold viruses on this thread, she has decided to employ a temp to send and receive her threads for her.
Kind regards,

I have a very strange message from LASSIE, and not Hobo !!!!!
Hobo has been on many special operations and this time Lassie was with him on a mission to secure a small miltary base. However, one of the SAS soldiers was discovered completely by accident and alert was given to some local Al-Quadae soldiers ...... The SAS boys were soon prepared for the attack, however one of the al-quadae soldiers managed to break free of the others and fire a shot at Lassie !!! But before anyone new anythig, Hobo had thrown himself into the line of fire and took the bullet in his left hand side !!! Of course, the rest of the SAS team quickly eliminated all the surrounding danger with ease.
Lassie has said that the situation is very worrying but that Hobo appears to be stable and they are in a safe retreat.
Thats all she had time to say !!!

OMG - Hobo the poor dear. As Jaygo currently has me as her temp - she says she is free to go out there and help Hobo by fixing his wounds. She did her first aid badge at Girl Guides. The offer is there.
Wilky, Lady Jaygo of Jaygo Towers is in fine fettle and sends her best wishes to the team.
OoM - Lady Jaygo also noticed that OoM's nieces are on the home page of this site. One hopes OoM is receiving royalties for publications of these dear, sweet children.

Vixter - in this time of great need, especially now that Hobo has made the sacrifice for his close buddy, we need to stand firm on the home front.
Can I suggest we all hand in our frying pans etc to make spitfires.
maybe a poster or two with the catchy slogan "careless talk costs lives" wouldn't go astray either.
Be firm, stand proud, and remember the old adage
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.
However I'd part with good money to see you do that girly on the back thing, but perhaps another time

Just in from Radio Deutche Welle - after the extraction of a severely knotted clump of chewing-gum entangled fur from his left buttock, the extermination of fourteen rectumnal fleas, the extraction of a three foot tape-worm and the dressing of a superficial graze, Hobo, though 100% fit for duty, has nevertheless checked into the sick bay pleading stress related injury. He has instructed three QC's to pursue a case for Crown compensation.

Poor Hobo indeed. I fully understand Pos, the security measures involved and would not consider any action that would jeopardise his safety. Therefore instead of visiting him, I offer two Bandaid and a Junior Disprin to send out on the next relief vehicle for him.
Wilky - I have had a scoot around the mansion and have managed to find:
a) Old tin bath b) Roll of tinfoil (reinforced turkey version) c) A Blue Peter Badge d) A Peugeot 205 (might as well use the metal, the rest of the car is useless)
You are welcome to these, plus all the railings from my vast property.

Hey Vix, you'll have to learn to control your emotions. It'll take Peurile Pos all night Australian time to think of anything to say and when he does it won't be worth reading. He's a spent force, typical Pom, one nudge in the ribs and he rolls around screaming foul. I'll despatch his feeble effort in the morning. Jaaaaaygoooo !!!
Hello darlin'! It's good to be back !
I'm fine actually - feeling kinda strange though, because you know that job I was offered? Well, I've just turned it down this morning !....
They seemed so disorganised, and despite me asking several times, I still haven't received any kind of details of the job, or aims and objectives etc. They kept asking me when I was going to start with them, and demanding I use any holiday entitlement I have here to bring the start date forwards with them, and yet they hadn't even answered my questions regarding the job description ! The right hand doesn't seem to know what the left is doing, so I just thought, b*gger it ! I'd be stupid to go and work in a place like that ....
Quite a big decision really, because the salary was 8 grand more than I'm on now, which I could certainly have put to good use ! I know it was the right decision though, but it's been bugging me for ages, so I'm now feeling quietly relieved !
How are you my love? Have I missed much?

Sparkle - thats really brave but you sound to have made a good decision to be honest. At least now you know you are capable of getting the calibre of job you just turned down, and if you go for something else you can let slip just who you have turned down in the past. Shame you can't bargain with current employer for more dosh but sounds like its not a good time to be putting head over parapet !
Good for you girl ! Lassie has turned down many a showy deal in favour of her principles, she would be proud of you.

Oh phew ! Thanks Jaygo. I really needed to hear that actually, because out of all the people I've asked for advice, half have said I should take it, and half have said no, so it was becoming a really hard choice !
The money would have been nice, but Matt's company is about to get rid of 30% of the staff, and he was one of the last to join, so we may be down to a one-income couple soon, in which case, I really need to stick where I am and have less chance of being given the elbow due to length of service.
Scary though - one of my brothers works in the travel industry, and he's the manager of a sales team and says that his billings have dropped by 70% since September 11th, so they've got rid of loads of people too.
It's just such a bad time for everyone, which is why I know I'm better off sticking it out here.
How have you been?

What time is it in Australia??? LOL .... i dont need to come up with a humourous quip Banjo ...... I am not the old bugger who has to stay up late at night just to try and make myself feel big by trying to put down youngsters in a far off country (the country in question which the Australians are direct decendents of. So please dont take the piss out of the Poms as the Australians are not only decendants of the poms .... but are decendants of the pommy convicts considered no good to be in Britain anymore.) Sweets dreams.

Sorry you giys if you think I am being harsh but i dont mind a laugh but I do get a bit bored wioth the old-timers Brit-bashing all the time. Once every now and again is humourous but then it just gets dull and desperate !
Anyway, sounds like you made the right decision Sparkle !!!

Sparks - yes I have been fine actually, quite chuffed that I got a break yesterday to get into some slightly higher calibre work - going on a training programme which is £3k so that has to say something ! It is a real breakthrough as I started here as an administrator and have quietly been studying, networking and getting experience in every single nook and cranny of this organisation. Consequently, I have put myself in a position where I am very useful ! It is unheard of for Admin to get to the ranks of very very junior tutor/exec coach role, but that is what I have managed to do. <smug expression, please feel free to wipe it off>

Good for you Pos, I back you up all the way. One of the things I like about this thread that on the whole it is intelligent humour and harmless fun. Banjo is extremely clever with his humour, but when he starts Brit Bashing to the extent that he does it stops being funny.
Banjo, we do have a sense of humour, its just that you don't seem to know when to stop.
<folds arms>
there, there Wilky, come on out, you're safe now.

Hi Jaygo. I haven't had much contact with you really but it sounds like you have done really well to get to the level you are at from being an administrator. You have got there from hard work from the sounds of it unlike many people who jump into jobs like that because they have irrelevant degrees or just "happen to know somebody" high up in the business. Well done. You must be proud of yourself

Jaygo - that's great news darlin' - bloody well done to you !
You've done something most people can't be bothered to, and learnt things outside of your job requirements or description, so you thoroughly deserve a reward for that !
I've decided I'm gonna do a similar thing, and make the best of a bad situation. I'm going to just chuck myself head first into developing this role as much as I can, and to be honest, I feel quite excited about that ! I've got some plans of things I can do, and already, I've persuaded the company to develop my role to include a software-training role (everyone comes to me anyway, so I might as well be officially recognised for it !) and we're in the process of redesigning the corporate image, so I've been doing lots of work on that which has been noticed by the Powers That Be, so that's given me some inspiration !
It's not a time to be sitting on our arses doing nothing, with the way economic climate as it is, that's for sure !
Onwards and Upwards !
Speaking of which, I really should go now - got a lot to do this avo, and I know that if I stay logged-on here, I'll never get anything done !!!
Take care and see you all soon !
Byeeee !

Vixter ..... there will be no round two !! No point in being bored by that anymore especially if he takes it a little too seriously !
All the British bashers are justy British wannabies and I don't care what anyone says to contend with that !!! Americans and Australians are just jealous of out history and humour !! Never mind !!
Enough said on that now.
Anyway, its better not to detract from the thread !!

Thanks Li'l Doll you are very kind to say that. I sound like a right old crawly bum lick but its not like that really, I just know the organisation really well and have been treated like crap enough to want to get out of the mold so rather than whinge (Banjo) I did something about it.

I AM NOT PISHED !!!!!
Basically I'm a lowly administrator who has spent the last two weeks in front of the same spreadsheet. However, despite Banjo's very good posts, I'm classed as the best writer in the company (not that you can tell from my shite typing) and I'm about to join our creative department.
Yes have that !!!!
And I'm seriously good looking and .............. eh, what you looking at pal? You want some do you? Come on then ......
See I'm sober like I said to the police officer earlier.
"Good afterable constanoon - my name is alcohol and I have a serious Wilky problem."
