Walking through Tesco the other night noticed a huge display of South African wine @ £4.99 a bottle with a quid for each bottle sold going to RND - i.e. £3.99 to Tesco, the supplier and vineyard in S.A. Ont' telly tonight an advert saying that if you spend a tenner in Sainsburys they will add 50p to the till roll and charge you £10.50 - with the extra 50p going to RND.
Well I think I'll donate directly to a much lower profile charity and cut out the greedy middle men who are cynically exploiting a noble cause.
Shame on the Red Nose Day/Comic Relief trustees who have sold out to big business.
PS - Just how much did it cost to send the celebs and the dozens of people who make up a film crew to Kenya?

Yip Kitty. you don't have to be too clever to realise that RND/CR peeps have franchised it out to Tesco and Sainsbury to use as a sales drive.
i.e. a £3.99 bottle of plonk can be sold for £4.99 - the customer is happy to donate a quid to Africa, we donate fcuk all and still make the same profit as we made last week - pre RND.

Many years back I picked out the charities I wanted to support, and since than have run a monthly DD from my bank account direct to them. I NEVER give to these bashes on the TV, they always seem to be a stomping ground for has been 'stars' hogging the limelight.
Don't even like watching any of it either tbh, they always seem to try and guilt trip you into forking out. No, I do my bit all year round, not when overpaid celebs think I should.

I agree with everything said so far. I prefer to choose my own charities and am happy to give to these. I have no time for charity door callers, i never give to those, always reminds me of begging. I am happy to give to some street collectors because i can choose who to give to. There is nothing worse than feeling like i'm being forced or co-erced into giving.
The worrying thing about giving to some charities is that a large percentage of monies collected goes to pay salaries for the charity's staff! I really object to that. Where the staff are volunteers as they should be, i am happy to donate. It's always a good feeling to give to charity knowing that all your donation is going to the cause.

The only street 'beggars' (though I don't honestly class them as such) that I do buy from, are the kids selling the Big Issue. I remember watching this fantastic lad once in Harrogate trying to sell them, he was pure magic, funny, polite, and so dammed cute! I bought one, then took time to read it on the train going home and really enjoyed it.
I will fork out for these, have never yet seen anyone selling them being over pushy or rude - quite the opposite, and the mag itself is full of readable stuff too.
