Very nice!! Is it in Pattaya Chromo? Always had a yen to move to Malaysia myself. I know I could have bought similar on Langkawi for same price, but I was just not brave enough to go it alone at that time. Bit envious of you though!

Sushi, the address is Banglamung, you know Pattaya has a bit of a rep, but yes it's east Pattaya, away from the notorious bits.
Not sure if the rest of the community would be happy if I sold the gym though.

I know where you are Chromo, I didn't think you would opt for Pattaya itself - be very risky place to live. I assume you are earning in Baht? So are you feeling this recession over there, or does it seem to be passing it by. I am pondering making a trip over to Chiang Mai early New Year, and wonder what kind of prices hotels are running now.

Hotels in the small soi by the Tha Phae Gate are cheap. Stayed at the VIP Guest House THB 280 a night. Was only going to stay a couple of days but stayed a whole week. Hotel prices are down as occupancy rates are so low. Unfortunately the Baht is strong, 50 to the Pound. Four years ago it was 70, but Thailand is still good value.

181 when I was last there and I can remember talking to someone who was there in the 60s and was getting nearly 400 to the pound. He reckons he couldnt spend his wages and was in the lap of luxury What the situation with property there now, I seem to recall its all on a lease.

Thailand has always been good value, I last stayed in Chiang Mai in 97, but have been back to Thailand many times since. Just fancied going back again along with a trip to Singapore - which is getting more pricey by the minute - so I need to compensate with Thai value. 50bt to the £ is painful though, I know of a few Brits that retired out there - that is gonna reduce their income by quite a chunk.
I'll check out that Guest house Chromo - thanks for the info! Oh, and is that brilliant night market there still as good as was?

Check out the Lotus in Chiang Mai. I had that all to myself apart from a dodgy retired American Admiral. German friend is part owner.

Now that's different KK, I was always warned Rai was the dodgy one, being in the Golden Triangle, with a lot coming in fom Laos and Burma causing grief to tourists. Must admit I did always fancy going up there, purely for the fact it was easy to get into Laos - need to do that, Cambodia and Vietnam one of these days! Done Burma, Thailand and Malaysia - need to complete the set!

My Chiang Mai pics s298.photobucket.com/albums/mm259/Chromodynamix/Chiang%20Mai/ Buying condos you have a 100% ownwership, but houses you need a Thai shell company to own the land. The villa had already a formed company, otherwise you are restricted to a 30 year lease on the land.

Nice one Chromo. How's the pub going? missing pub updates since SWTHYL closed down with MSN (unless we moved and I missed it). MrBond, good to see you still around. Pub is recovering after some major pilfering and a hole in the VAT account. My bro got bopped by a reg over 20 quid he owed. As the reg was out on probation, he is back behind bars, but not the bars he wanted!

Yeah, still about. Pop in here on a regular basis but rarely post as it's too mussies are taking over the world rants for my liking.
Glad to hear things are going better now. Pubs sound like a dodgy business to be in.
