There seems to be a lot of it going around at the moment. Whilst I agree, pretty crap times! Not very counter productive to absolve oneself in 'pity'. I just watched 'Shameless' for the first time ever! That can't be a true reflection of todays society, surely?

Shameless - never miss an episode, makes me realise how dammed fortunate I am not to be in that lifestyle, I also find it extemely funny in places.
Oh, and yes, there are places in Manchester just like that - many other inner cities too will have areas as bad.

Oh I do agree. I have been told of families that all have a non working mentality - and are proud of it. Their Grandparents never worked, nor their parents, they won't and nor will their offspring. They just rip off the benefit system generation after generation, and don't see why they should change what works for them. I heard that Moss-side in Mancland is where a lot of the research for Shameless was done. Probably been hyped up a bit in the series to keep a high flow rate, but I bet it's not far off the mark! (My step daughter and her husband work for the Social in Glasgow - some of their tales make Shameless sound like a fairy tale!
