Phillip Schofield under fire for 'silly stunt' TV presenter Phillip Schofield has come under fire after he handed Prime Minister David Cameron a list of alleged paedophiles during a live interview on ITV1's This Morning. The list of Conservative Party figures, drawn from gossip circulating on the internet, was accidentally exposed to the cameras in a way which meant it was visible to viewers. A Downing Street source described the action as "irresponsible" and a "silly stunt", while Mr Cameron himself warned against a witch hunt against people who are gay. Mr Schofield later apologised if the names had been visible as a result of a "misjudged camera angle", and stressed that he was not intending to launch a witch hunt. www.itv.com/news/story/2012-11-05/north-wales-care-home-abuse-claims/

PM's spokesman warns of dangers of 'trial by Twitter' Prime Minister David Cameron's official spokesman has warned against the dangers of "trial by Twitter" over the current child sex abuse allegations. His comments came after Mr Cameron warned against the dangers of a 'witch-hunt' against those suspected of child abuse during an interview on ITV'1s This Morning. The point he was making was that there are some extremely serious allegations. We need to get to the bottom of those. We should not have people throwing names around, throwing allegations around and trial by Twitter. There are lots of accusations flying round and many accusations on the internet. We need to be very careful. If there are allegations, they need to be looked at properly in the right way by the relevant authorities. People need to be cautious of the fact that naming names could have implications for future criminal prosecutions. – Prime Minister David Cameron's official spokesman www.itv.com/news/story/2012-11-05/north-wales-care-home-abuse-claims/or trial by Newsgeneral

Campaigner: No reason for PM to warn of a gay 'witch-hunt'
It is regrettable that David Cameron has inadvertently reinforced the prejudice that associates gay people with child sex abuse. I am sure this was not his intention.
There is no reason why he should link the current scandals with gay people or warn of an anti-gay witch-hunt. The current investigations concern paedophilia, not homosexuality."
– Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell

Funny.
Schofield did look a bit like a "true believer" as he shoved the list across.
At worst, this looks like a bit of self publicity with a touch of zealotry by the presenter. Not really the childish stunt you want to present to a serving PM.

I had no idea about this program until I just watched this video. I'm no fan of Cameron but I think Schofield was awful here. He's a lightweight who has tried to be grown up - and made an absolute fool of himself. I think Cameron, who was obviously trying to stay 'correct' did his best - and wasn't too bad. And no, I don't think he connected being Gay with Peedo. If anything Schofield did.

Cameron spoke a lot of sense. Names on the internet repeated half a dozen times just suggest that a few people have seen the same names and passed them on. Any real evidence should be rigorously investigated but trial by rumour is nasty and insidious. Schofield should be sacked for such childish behavior. He obviously isn't capable of joined up thinking.
