At least the nippers won't have blocked noses and should sink straight to the bottom.

S what's known as survival of the fittest! Any kid dumb enough to drown in a couple o feet o water wouldn't have lasted long anyway. It's like the kids that stick the washing machine on and climb inside! Some people you just can't help!

All life came from the waters, I think that's why we have the urge to return there. In the case of children I think it should be encouraged.

Since some people buy their homes with a pond already in place, they can't be blamed for creating a potential hazard... and a pond is good for wildlife, too. But a fence around the entire garden is a good idea anyway, pond or no pond.

Garden ponds - KILL children
You should be taking this seriously - only last week I was stalked by a pond, and if it hadn't been for a solar-powered fountain and a small statue of Venus rising from the waves I'd have been a goner!

Well I think Eric has a valid point........
But why stop at garden ponds ? Why not fence off every pond, river & lake in Britain ?.......and what about the seaside ? We are an island nation so how about a 10ft high electric fence around the entire coastline ?
(think of the money to be made out of EEC grants)

We should drain the sea Beachy, then we could fill it up with all the waste that we seem to be up to our necks in.
The fly tippers could use the big hole instead of our country lanes. What a great idea.

I will just let you refelct on the type of council that can afford a "water feature" - And their probable general indifference to the rest of us.

Safety assurances after toddler's death
Matthew Perry went missing on Thursday afternoon
A Telford borough councillor has assured residents the pools around the town park are safe following the death of a toddler.
Matthew Perry is thought to have fallen into Withy Pool in Telford Town Park after he ran on to a line of concrete pads shaped like lilies.
Councillor Keith Austin said there was no problem as long as people were sensible.
"It's not recommended that people go paddling in these parts, they're not for that.
Discourage children
"They're there to add an aesthetic pleasance to parks and the areas are quite safe.
"But when the weather is hot we would like to discourage children from going so close to the water's edge."
The two-year-old toddler, from Bloxwich, West Midlands, died in hospital on Saturday.
Telford and Wrekin Borough Council, which owns the park, is carrying out its own investigation into the accident and has informed the Health and Safety Executive.
Borough of Telford & Wrekin has adopted arrangements, following extensive public consultation, to improve decision-making.
The system is a Cabinet of nine Councillors, including the Leader, who have responsibility for executive decisions within the authority's overall budget and policy framework. With a few exceptions, the Cabinet has replaced the previous system of committees, with each member having a portfolio of responsibilities.
The Council has a majority of Labour members; the Cabinet consists of Labour Councillors only.
......I wanted to post this yesterday, but my comouter was playing silly buggers....

What you trying to say, Nexus? That councils shouldn't try to make the place more pleasant for everyone? That parents have no responsibility for their two year old children? Or that we should all breed like flies to make up for the ones that dont't survive accidents?

I'm not trying; I'm showing that Eric is a typical anti-middle class thingy for having a pop at "the sort of people who have water features", when the case could equally be made against his beloved labour party for endangering lives.
of course, the basic gist could well be lost if you don't appreciate heavy sarcasm...
