And kill Wales...
Obviously, she was arrested at a stop the oil rally, but then when did the truth matter to the cult?

This is good to hear. Need some of these in Cali, I read they are finally getting around to building a couple new ones. Energy Monitor notes that “globally, around 1% of the world’s drinking water is desalinated, but in Israel, that figure is around 25%.” Israel’s desalinated water comes from five desalination plants. The Sorek B plant has a capacity to desalinate 52.8 billion gallons a year and is contracted to produce water for $0.41 per cubic meter. There are around 264 gallons per cubic meter, so this puts the cost at about a penny per 6.4 gallons.humanprogress.org/desalinating-water-is-becoming-absurdly-cheap/#:~:text=Water%20abundance%20from%20desalination%20is,grew%20almost%20nine%20times%20faster.

It's my understanding there are issues, these plants create huge amounts of emissions due yo how power hungry thry are, and the byproduct is a very toxic brine that's not doing anything good when put back in the sea.

Yeah, the toxic brine can be a problem, particularly in places with shallow water and low currents. It's particularly a problem in the Persian Gulf where the salination is necessary for UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, etc.
We do, of course, have good desalination in California. 10% of San Diego's drinking water now comes from our desalination plant in Carlsbad. And I think I posted a few weeks ago about an awesome tech that works in deep ocean using the pressure from the ocean to push water through the membranes.

Didn't know about the brine problem.
Flanders, are you back in San Diego? I thought you moved to Boston.

I moved back a couple of months ago. We said we were doing 3 to 5 in the northeast, as if it was a prison sentence. We have no been released back to reintegrate into civilised society.

Welcome back. My daughter is down there at UCSD.
Got sick of the winters?

I got sick of all four seasons. Bug and Sweat Season, Leaf-Raking Season, Snow-Shovelling Season and Mud Season.
Congratulations to your daughter. UCSD is very good, and I thought almost impossible to get into if you weren't some kind of East Asian math-savant. Incidentally, I went to see George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic there last weekend. Lovely new little shell and bowl venue and a fantastic gig. And UCSD students could get in for free on the grass bank at the back. I hope she was there. And I cycle through there once or twice most weekends.

Thanks. I know she's gone to a few concerts but I suspect not that one. I'll have to ask her. She knows some old bands because of me but I doubt she's heard of George Clinton.
It is a lovely area.

windfarm in wildlife refuge already slaughtering bald eagles. plans are to build 11 more farms. "Similar peril is indicated for Golden Eagle populations. Notice that the estimate of Bald Eagle take for this project and six others presently holding take permits is already a staggering 28% of the LAP per year." wattsupwiththat.com/2023/10/30/rock-creek-i-and-ii-gen-tie-remand/

In the short term it's a gimmick. I'm not even sure in the medium term it's particularly important. I've always considered air travel basically the last greenhouse gas emitter that we were going to fix, and it only amounts to about 2% of the global total. Almost everything else - apart from cow-farts - is easily fixable using known technology. We can cut CO2 emissions to near zero without touching air travel. In the long term, obviously, it's good to have an alternative that works. If the dinosaur juice runs out planes will stop running while everything else can continue. But I do think Team Biofuel are quite cynical. They're in cahoots with Team Dinosaur Juice to try and maintain ICEs and combustion fuel in general, and the distribution network and the entire set up. They really don't want the big switch to electric in other parts of transport. So I take it all with a massive pinch of salt.
