A decent article here www.lrb.co.uk/v40/n05/william-davies/what-are-they-afterAs much about the weird pathologies of the right as about Brexit. It's very long, of course, and our Brextremists on these pages can't read or understand anything longer than a paragraph or so, so they'll ignore it. But it contains a lot of interesting stuff. The LRB really does have some top quality writing.

London Review of Books? That's the equivalent of me posting an article from the Daily Star.

Excerpt from the excellent article:
"While Rees-Mogg may be a firm believer in the Victorian moral vision of Brexit, there can be no denying that his currently elevated status is largely down to the fact that he is recognisable and provides good media ‘content’. When the media report his latest comments, it’s because he is someone whom everyone recognises from the media. Everything he says or does must be calculated to ensure that this remains the case. As any troll understands, wit and disruption are the best tactics for succeeding in the ‘attention economy’."
Very, very true, especially the last sentence.

One of the weirdest things is that Rees-Mogg, a multi-millionaire who makes money in offshore funds, should be a Brexiter pick for prime minister.

I think that article is most apposite, and the idea of the 'attention economy' is gaining in accuracy by the day.

I think the stuff about moral hazard is also very pertinent, and seems to explain a lot.

Re the article.....life in the warm university urban bubble...how quaint .No accountability or editorial controls. Divorced from & and out of step with reality.....more state control and boo hiss to articulate populist elected leaders. A perfect blogger for resident echo chamber Remainers to drool over....enjoy!

I see the remainers have got themselves all wet over a little bog post. Again, no informed critique of the piece itself then, save a personal attack on those you consider to have a different opinion to you? You do see the picture you paint - don't you?

I've read 10s of thousands of words of anti-Brexit drivel and, really, you don't have to read any more than the first few hundred before it starts to repeat itself in the most tedious manner. I can't be arsed reading more of the same boring guff so no "informed critique of the piece" from me.

Curiously I saw the moral hazard argument touted about previously in support of something else, but I forget what. It was slightly better argued though.

Taking the view that 2+2 = 4 is not prejudice.

I'm not sure that I have a problem with the moral hazard line, to be fair. Seems a fairly obvious outcome to me.
