TBH, I have serious reservations about universal suffrage too. You have to wonder if it's sensible to give a vote to people who choose to read The Daily Star. Maybe we should have a qualifier - you must have done some form of community service each year (not as a punishment) to qualify, that sort of thing. Classist. Bollocks. Reading The Star isn't a class issue. Maybe an underclass issue, but there are lots of working class people who wouldn't wipe their arses with it.

We're at risk of being embroiled in that "absorbing vs. absorbent" debate, aren't we?

Not necessarily. Seriously though, the reportage of current events is of a much higher calibre in your average roll of Plenty than in the Daily Star. As for the Express, Mail and Sun, they can't even compete with Izal, that rather coarse stuff beloved of HM Gummint institutions nationwide a few years back.
NOW PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS.

Funny how the right in the UK now have started following their counterpart in the US in calling for an end to democracy, only letting those they approve of vote.
Still the right has always had a wide anti democratic streak

I would like a genuine democratic vote, by informed, responsible adults. I know that rules you out, but I think it's a kindness really.

If we don't want the thick to have a say about who runs the country, we could just burn all the ballot papers with a cross next to Labour, the Lib Dems or the Greens.

Why is everybody saying “congrats”? 4 in 10 French voters wanted a Nazi? That’s incredibly disturbing. Akin to 40% of UK voters backing the BNP. Taking abstentions and the number of eligible voters into account, the number who voted for LePen was less than 20% of the population. Bad enough, but the next thing to take into account is that LePen attracted many new voters with her promises to reduce VAT to 5% and stop those under 30 paying income tax - both ridiculed by economists as unworkable. That doesn’t improve things. Those abstaining were chill af with having a Nazi in power. The part about the tax is so laughable that I am shocked French voters (who tend to be more switched on) even fell for it.

Still the right has always had a wide anti democratic streak They will argue to the death that them removing the vote from people who vote in a way they dislike is “democratic though”. They should just openly admit they’re anti-democractic fascists and be done with. But much like their racism, they have no problem BEING anti-democratic fascists, they just don’t like it when you accurately call their behaviour what it is.

I would like a genuine democratic vote, by informed, responsible adults. That would, by default, eliminate everyone who’s ever voted Tory.

I still keep seeing people giving credence to Le Pen voters who feel “aggrieved” or “left behind”. And who feel she understands how unfair it is that 50 year olds can’t retire on a full massive state pension, that under 40s have to pay income tax, and that VAT and corporation taxes exist. “She feels the pain of the working class” they say. Bollocks to that. She’s promising absolutely impossible nonsense. People who buy into it are irrational morons.

f**k me, the BBC are a bunch of right wing cunts, aren't they? www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61863172Equating the actually fascist RN with the broad left coalition of greens and social democrats along with the Melenchonistes. It's f**k**g outrageous. "Greens and Nazis, they're two sides of the same coin, eh?" Time to burn the whole thing down and replace it with something actually impartial instead.

The French seem to be wedged between two cheeks of the same arse; Le Pen and the commies.

The BBC have been presenting it as a hard-right takeover. Which it absolutely isn't. Far from it, in fact.
