the most scandalous thing that Trump's done in Britain, the thing that upsets Brits most, is walk in front of the queen while strolling past ludicrously dressed soldiers in Windsor, and keep her waiting so long that she looked at her watch.
I feel grateful that I left that ludicrous stuffy country.
Not as grateful as us.
Still, are you aware of the uniform and customs of your adopted country's most esteemed miltary institutions? West Point, perhaps? Or what about France's Garde républicaine or Italy's Carabiniere or Bersaglieri? Maybe the household guard unit of those other stuffy monarchies at the very apex of the national development index like, say Sweden, Norway, Denmark or the Netherlands. They all go in for a bit of early 19th Century chic. Now, I know that some folk think it's okay to rock up in your working gear (Israel) or to be obliged to bring your own trousers and footwear (Germany) but I'm glad our own people look like they take a pride in their history although I accept that might be difficult in the case of the last two examples. Perhaps they could parade in butcher's aprons.
I understand reactionary militaristic plonkers love this sh*t, and it's the kind of bollocks that goes with monarchies.
But I don't understand why my facebook lefty friends and various bits of center-left media who're all proud of their liberal enlightenment mentalities are suddenly outraged by Trump doing this. They're people who - at all other times - think that monarchy, protocol, and silly hats on soldiers carrying obsolete guns are completely and utterly ludicrous and a waste of time and money and should be disposed of forthwith.

They're just pissy with Trump. He's a dick, so that's understandable. Ceremonial is ceremonial. We all do it (except for one or two truly horrible countries.)
as an distant observer, I would think she would be grooming ol Charley to someday in the distant future take over, that would include meeting with leaders of other countries, like say Trump, he could have stood in for the MR,, or is he not up for the task
He's ready to step up and I'm sure he'll do a decent job. As I say, HMQ is our head of state, not Chuck, so it's her gig for the time being. Also, she won't be around forever. She's got enough cred that meeting a Grade A cock like Trump won't damage her.
I would think that the right thing to do is keep him away from controversy as much as possible. Which means keep him away from Trump. No reason to have him also involved in a couple of trivial bits of ceremonial if queeny can do it on her own.
this ceremony thing has Trump acting more as a Subject then a co-equal, I agree it was rude of Trump, but would it have been had the Queen been 60 instead of 92?
Brenda is not the ruler of UK, she's kept around as figure head head of state, but has no power. Not sure why any one cares if Trump walked in front of her, she's fecking old and doddery so is gonna be incredibly slow. It probably hard not to out pace her tbh
That which does not kill us makes us angry and weak
Granted they are not co equal Trump as US President, democratically (Well sort of) elected has much more legitimacy, power and prestige than Brenda who frankly is a bit of an anachronism

Bollocks. The best countries in the world almost all have monarchies. It works. Democracy's not the whole answer. You're living in the past.
I can see some advantages with a monarch, however can also see some disadvantages, depending on the monarch, what exactly do they do? don't the PM really run the place?
Thing is you can still have a parliamentary democracy (certainly the best and most stable kind of democracy) and still elect a largely powerless ceremonial figure head head of state.
