Looks like Nancy has whipped his ass again, he got nothing he wanted, but still won't follow through on his threats to close the government. US President Donald Trump has said that a second government shutdown is unlikely after lawmakers agreed to a deal to fund the federal government. "I don't think you're going to see a shutdown" he said on Tuesday. "I'm not happy about it. It's not doing the trick," www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47218630The great negotiator and deal maker eh?

So, 55 instead of 2000 miles. What's the point, beyond the political?

Well, the idea that you need a physical barrier everywhere is moronic. And there's already a few hundred miles of barrier, in California, Arizona and Texas. Presumably, they're adding a little bit on, although it seems redundant as almost all illegal arrivals and illegal drugs either come through legal ports of entry or through the smuggler's tunnels under the walls that are already there.

Hahaha... exactly. If you erect a wall, people will walk around it, dig beneath it, climb over it or knock a hole through it. It's what people do.

Or come through legitimate routes, which is what almost all of them do.
But yes, in San Diego where there's been a great big f**k**g fence for ages, people keep finding tunnels that have rail tracks, lighting, air-con, the whole lot. Almost always for drugs.

true, but it still stops 90+% of the crossings, if given enough time and equipment it can be breached, but it does stop those without those resources

its risible to suggest it stops 90% + of crossings, this has a smell of a Trump statistic, ie. totally made up and massively exaggerated.

so tell me,, when was the last time you guys crossed a 30ft fence to go anywhere?? there are border check points available for those wishing to enter the USA, the wall/fence is only there to encourage those to use them,, wall is being built already, I suspect by the end of Trump's term, 2024, the wall will be built

And everyone uses the border crossings. Even the people who're staying here illegally. I don't travel to the middle of the desert into the steep mountains to travel between San Diego and Tijuana because there's no fence there. I use the border crossing.
The stats say that something like 95% of the US's unauthorised immigrants arrived through proper ports of entry. We don't need more wall in places where people aren't crossing anyway.

European invaders commit genocide, settle in and reproduce, gain respectability worldwide, then build wall to keep out others.

Democrats thank Trump for opening the door to making climate change, gun control and healthcare all national emergencies www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47258754his announcement was more disjointed and rambly than usual, wonder if he is on the bottle these days or if he does indeed suffer from some form of dementia.

There's a widely held belief that Mitch McConnell has an inside track to the judiciary who're going to shoot this down at the first possible chance.
The last thing that the Republicans want is for this to be legal. Because if putting up a barrier that will do nothing is an emergency, then how serious is providing healthcare or public transport or whatever. Having a way to just ignore the Senate filibuster and spend money on priorities is a much bigger deal for the party who is inclined to spend and want more and better government programs. It's a complete disaster for the party of "small government.
I wonder if that's why Pelosi hasn't even bothered to try and vote it down in the House. She's letting Republicans own this particular shot in their own foot. But McConnell will find a way to stop it.

Another that might be best on the 'extreme snowflake thread', in his inimitable style Trumps just threw a massive hissy fit over so many states launching legal moves against his wholly unnecessary deceleration of a national emergence, one he himself admitted on live TV was not necessary, so in an act of pure political retribution he's cancelling federal funding for already approved projects in those states challenging him wanting to be King of America and simply making laws all by himself with no regard of the democratic process. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47310215

It's embarrassing for Trump and gives congressional committees a lot of stuff to chew on and make Trump uncomfortable about over the next 2 years. But it's all coming from Cohen so I don't know if it's going to make any difference to anyone.

He entered several bits of evidence to support his claims.
