If Trump had shut down Mueller, even the most pathetic Republican saps would have realised he was acting like an angry autocrat trying to remove all possible avenues of criticism. Also, I'm not he legally could have shut it down. It was run by the justice department which is, theoretically, independent of the adminsitrative branch.

Russia has always tried to interfere with US, and probably most/all other countries elections, as has I assume USA, UK, and most other countries, nothing new here,,, Washington was likely the last president to get elected without Russian interference of some sort If this year's Russian influence was so mundanely unimportant, why did Trump say there was no interference? And why did all his people lie about the Trump Tower meeting with Russians, about Trump's ongoing attempts to get Trump-Moscow built, about their links to Russian backed Wikileaks, about Manafort's connections to Russians - particularly those working to break up the Ukrain, and so on and so forth?

the justice department is headed by the AG, who works at the pleasure of the President, Trump did sack Sessions, could have easily appointed someone who would have shut down Mueller and taken over the investigation, would have maybe suffered a short time drop in ratings but would have weathered the storm, however first choice was leave Mueller alone and have him find nothing,, what now? the dems will likely cry and vow to keep up the investigation themselves, I think it is 50-50 they will impeach, Senate will override the impeachment, Trump will gain 2 or 3 states in next election, dems will lose the House and a couple senate seats,,,

But don't you question his motives just a little bit when he attackes Mueller repeatedly, attackes the FBI, judges, the intelligence services and so on, in a blatant attempt to undermine them and the trust the public has in these institutions?
No of course you don't.

I'm kind of glad that's over and done with, so the "#resistance" idiots can stop fantasizing about some magic bullet that will end Trump's reign.

It is interesting that the direct quote is:
"The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities"
This is not quite "The investigation established that no members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government". It's not (yet) the full exoneration that Trump and his people are claiming.

Why not just wait and vote him out?? I agree. Anything else will create all kinds of resentment from angry racists.

I don't know which is weirder: that the Yanks voted for Trump or that they can't get rid of him.
I'm starting to wonder if the movers and shakers haven't decided that the game's up with democracy and they've moved on to something better aligned with the information age.

I think you overestimate both the intelligence and the power of the movers-and-shakers. And for many of the movers and shakers, Trump is a very useful idiot - he creates a distraction by being all offensive noise while the right wing movers and shakers get free reign of a lot of government agencies, and increasingly the judiciary.

be interesting to see if we get the full report with Mueller's conclusions rather than Bar's 4 page spin.

The Senate on Tuesday rejected the Green New Deal, with Republicans casting the proposal to reduce dependence on fossil fuels to combat climate change as a far-left idea and with Democrats taking the rare step of voting "present" on a politically driven vote. The measure failed on a 57-to-0 vote, with all Republicans and four Democrats blocking the resolution. Aiming to avoid an intraparty fight on the issue, 43 Democrats - including those who introduced the Green New Deal - voted "present." www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-green-new-deal-senate-vote-20190326-story.html

It's interesting that just by having introduced the Green New Deal, the Democrats have forced a bunch of Republicans to try and take a stand in climate change. It's a lot of nonsense talking point bollocks from Republicans about massive increase in nuclear (which these days looks uneconomical compared to renewables) and carbon capture, but it's interesting because they're all suddenly accepting that human caused global warming is actually a thing, and a thing that needs fixing.
