The GOP are now trying to decapitate the US military, weaken its leadership and make the US less secure and less able to respond to threats. All because the military refused to suppress women, preferring instead to trust woman to know what's best for themselves and to refuse to take away their bodily autonomy and the right to free movement. abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/single-senator-blocking-us-military-promotions-means-pentagon-101304441And they wonder why they've lost the last 3 elections.

Good, rehabilitation is what the emphasis should be, make sure prisoners are better equipped to be productive members of society when they get out and stop prison being a revolving door. It's far far cheaper to educate them, give them a trade, than keep locked up at the taxpayers expense.
Only an idiot would see this as bad thing.

Clearly some would see it as deeply unfair that criminals go to college at the taxpayers expense, while law-abiding folk have to pay. But, if it reduces recidivism (love that word) and so is less expensive than having ex-convicts incarcerated again, it makes sense.
Dunno what the cost per-prisoner in the USA is, but here it's over £40k a year!

Yes, less crime, less victims, and hopefully, more tax and people contributing in other ways.
Though obviously team idiot is gonna hate it, won't be long before there are "stories" (in the true meaning of the word) circulating on far right websites claiming people are becoming criminals simply to get free collage. And cos they thick as a bag of rocks, the idiot squad will believe it.

People appear to forget that felons are part of, and a result of, our society. We made them.

We all know you're not part of society.

Yeah you did. Some poor kid who you called a fatty and he went on to self-harm and turned to crime to support his drugs habit* *I might have made all of that up.

Kinnell. He must be a lefty to be able to do that much sobbing. "A man who forced himself to cry for seven days says he went temporarily blind as a craze for eccentric feats of endurance sweeps Nigeria. Guinness World Records has seen a surge in record-breaking attempts from Africa’s most populous nation in recent months, sparked by a chef’s four-day cooking marathon that caught the public imagination. Tembu Ebere, who has been attempting to weep non-stop for a week, said he had experienced headaches, puffy eyes and a swollen face, and went partially blind for 45 minutes amid his own efforts. “I had to re-strategise and reduce my wailing,” he told the BBC, adding he was determined to sob towards his target despite the difficulties encountered." www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/07/17/nigeria-guinness-world-records-blind-cring-record-attempt/?li_source=LI&li_medium=liftigniter-rhr

What do you prefer? They are left completely at a disadvantage for reentry into society.

I'm in favour of prisoners being educated although most are barely at secondary school level so let's start with that. In fact they should be forced to learn to read, write and do sums better by using a reward system that starts from an extremely austere level and, with evidence of reaching good levels of basic education, rises to just austere.

This however puts the USA much higher - 75% is what I usually see about the USA.

If the law was less weighted in favour of the rich you'd probably find the education levels of prisoners more even.
