A brain surgeon who works with fruits sounds like just what Bert needs. All he needs now is a brain.

Can a remainer explain why your predictions of economic catastrophe in the immediate aftermath of a vote to leave the EU were so wrong? The treasury report you are referring to was made by civil servants, not by Remainers.

If you think fruit pickers are doing brain surgery, offer yourself for treatment For Bert of course The poster who was expecting brain surgeons and engineers to meet the fruit-picking shortage appears not to have thought of the obvious result of imposing restrictions on seasonal workers. UK fruit rots and we have to import even more.

Have we imposed any restrictions on seasonal workers then?

Have we imposed any restrictions on seasonal workers then? It's the law of supply and demand. From 1st January 2021, the bureaucrats will be able to make a mess of arrangements that are now working efficiently under EU freedom of movement.

Well actually, working class Scotland in the 70s...

The cheery cockneys and the university students have given up working in the fields in their holidays, so they have been replaced by Romanians and Bulgarians. So I expect, there will be no picking and choosing of fruit and vegetable pickers. If the drastic fall of the pound vs the euro continues, recruiters may have to go further afield for workers.

Yeah. Makes you wonder how we got on for the forty years we were in the EU and actually DID have restrictions on seasonal workers. Really? Link please. "the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Scheme (SAWS) which operated from 1948 until the end of 2013, bringing in migrant farm workers for a period of up to six months. From January 2008 until its closure at the end of 2013, the scheme was reserved for nationals of Romania and Bulgaria (EU2). No more than a sixth of seasonal work is done by British worker" www.migrationwatchuk.org/briefing-paper/393There you go. Chapter and verse. Reality's a pisser, innit?

Ha ha ha
Migrationwatch? Do piss off. As it happens I was involved with the seasonal farm work industry during that period: most of it was carried out by British casual workers. It was in the 80s that east Europeans began to move in as the new generation Brits were unreliable.
That's a fact. Get over yourself. You know fuckall.

Civil servants are politically neutral. They serve whatever government is in power by implementing their decisions and offering impartial advice to base these decisions on.
Since the upper levels of the civil service are more informed and more rational than the general public, I expect they are mostly personally in favour of Remain. The Leave vote was largely based on ignorance and irrational prejudice against foreigners. Except for some wealthy people who hope to benefit from making a fool of the ordinary voter for their own personal self-interest.

So, which part of my statement about "the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Scheme (an actual, factual thing) do you (stupidly) disagree with? And why?
