Here: "Sergio D’Alberti, a 51-year-old Italian hotel manager currently out of work due to the Covid pandemic, told the Guardian he was held for seven hours at the French port after UK Border Force officials concluded he would be a potential drain on the benefits system. They said his €4,500 (£3,870) in funds was “not sufficient to cover all reasonable costs in relation to your being without working or accessing public funds” and that his lack of return ticket and job added to suspicion he was lying." Not too tricky, that. Dunno. Your post mate.

It was a rhetorical question. I think we can infer that he was allowed in.
It's completely reasonable, given his circumstances. Guess what? We've left the EU. Why this is a surprise to an unemployed Italian chef and a matter for outrage at The Guardian, is a mystery.

From this you inferred he was allowed in? “ Like D’Alberti, Chloe, who asked us to use a pseudonym, was turned away two weeks ago”

At least he doesn't come across as a petulant prick:
"It was horrible. I’m disgusted the way I have been treated. I have never been so humiliated in my life. I will never ever ever go to the UK again. To me the UK no longer exists. It is not in my vocabulary. After Calais it is the north pole,” he said."

Oh it's been bordering recession for yonks, in and out. It's what happens when you share the country's wealth more evenly among the people. You know, great roads, trains, health system, sports and social facilities, all the stuff a decent community has; unlike the UK where it's champagne in the City, people dying in the streets and the OK yahs pontificating about niggahs and oiks from their orangeries.

I know, embarrassing isn't it. Meanwhile... "Overall, Britain's economy shrank by 9.8% in 2020, worse than any other country in the G7 group of major advanced nations. French GDP contracted by 8%."

Yes, in recession and France's overall economy's still better than the UK. I think we all know it's cobblers, this day-to-day reportage of the economy. When it starts hitting the individual in the pocket is another thing.

When it starts hitting the individual in the pocket is another thing. In what way is France's economy better? We did this a few weeks back. Recession is defined as an extended period (three business quarters?) of negative growth, so this isn't "day-to-day" reporting. That's nonsense. Also,.France has lower GDP and higher unemployment figures, bad breath and body odour.

What’s the value of 2% national growth if the top 5% double their wealth and the rest actually get poorer?
