Doctors have taken a major step towards curing the most common form of blindness in the UK - age-related macular degeneration. Douglas Waters, 86, could not see out of his right eye, but "I can now read the newspaper" with it, he says. www.bbc.com/news/health-43458365Stem cell transplant 'game changer' for MS patients Doctors say a stem cell transplant could be a "game changer" for many patients with multiple sclerosis. Results from an international trial show that it was able to stop the disease and improve symptoms. It involves wiping out a patient's immune system using cancer drugs and then rebooting it with a stem cell transplant. Louise Willetts, 36, from Rotherham, is now symptom-free and told me: "It feels like a miracle." www.bbc.com/news/health-43435868The MS one in particular is amazing if it can be used widespread, Canada has world highest rates of MS, so I see lots of MS patients.

Are stem cells totally transferable between patients? Or do you need your own, sucked from the base of your spine and injected into other bits of you?

Ah! Reading the link, it looks like it's the latter. So you have to have enough good, working stem cells of your own.

More amazing modern medicine news. www.bbc.com/news/health-48706822NHS patients with lymphoma have for the first time been given a pioneering treatment that genetically reprogrammes their immune system to fight cancer. Mike Simpson, 62, from Durham, says his cancer is now "on the run". The therapy, called CAR-T, is a "living drug" that is tailor-made for each patient using their body's own cells Doctors at King's College Hospital, London, said some patients were being completely cured in a way that had "never been seen before".

no one really knows what causes MS in the first place or why there is such a prevalence here, lots of theories mind, most likely a mix of genetics and environment, but really we just don't know.

Somethings a bit fishy about this one www.bbc.com/news/health-49646907US doctors are hoping to start offering women vaginal fluid transplants and have set up a programme to screen potential donors.

Yeah, could they not just re-purpose the stuff that you pour down the sink out of a John West tin?

Yeah, could they not just re-purpose the stuff that you pour down the sink out of a John West tin? You need to be careful doing that. I once had a nasty gash.

Anyway another huge step forward. www.bbc.com/news/health-49907356A man has been able to move all four of his paralysed limbs with a mind-controlled exoskeleton suit, French researchers report. Thibault, 30, said taking his first steps in the suit felt like being the "first man on the Moon". His movements, particularly walking, are far from perfect and the robo-suit is being used only in the lab. But researchers say the approach could one day improve patients' quality of life.

I wondered why China suddenly lifted the ban of Canadian Pork given the extradition of Huawei CFO is still ongoing. Oikachoo wiping out that many pigs is also going to put some under food security pressure as well.

Some people may suffer side effects from treatments - SHOCKER! And only people who don’t wear glasses could fail to understand why those who do would like to replace them with Lasik.
