The pyramids are rather impressive, but what you'd never know from how they are always shown, just how close the city is and how much litter and grime is everywhere, and you're constantly hassled by people trying to sell you stuff. Built be brown people about the time a few proto Bits are just about managing to ballence a few stones in a small circle. The thing everybody tells me about the Pyramids is just how close they are to the city which really makes me want to see them. What WAS impressive was Chichen Itza (built by brown people). Truly stunning. And Tulum too (though it’s about to topple into the sea.)

The Acropolis is 8 million times more impressive than Stonehenge. Even if it was also built by white men, it wasn't built by British white men Yeah, but they had the weather, you see?

The Acropolis is decent. The symbol of European democracy and the most advanced civilisation the world has ever seen. The South American ones were pretty much built by Chinese types and the Pyramids by Mediterranean types.

Yeah, laying stones on top of each other. Genius.
Still, what Van and her clicque of racists seem to be hellbent on stressing is that these buildings were built by people of faith and that actual blackers have been consistently incompetent, unimaginative and/or lazy throughout recorded history.

Perhaps one of our resident lefties could explain the reasoning behind this insertion of people of sub-Saharan origin into all stages of British history? It seems like an odd thing to focus on.

It's patronising, which is the point.

To whom, and why?

To everyone, and because it implies that the poor little things can't cope if they're not included in everything.

Lots of ancient sites are very impressive, the Mayan or Inca stuff obviously, but places like Nalanda or Timbuktu stand out for me, if Mali wasn't so unstable I'd love to go there.

I’m not religious but want to see the churches in Lalibela.
I should really make a list and work my way through it (unless the Tories continued destruction of Britain and the resulting insane cost of living makes it impossible.)
The annoying part is I prefer solo travel but being a sole female traveller brings a whole new level of risks.

I want to visit Machu Pichu but hear mixed things. Apparently there are more impressive Inca / Mayan remains but you need to trek to find them.
