Police chief quits too.
Excellent.
Maybe they can offer better training. I mean there was a very easy solution which was take the drunk’s keys and let him walk it off.
The police instead decided how can we take a calm reasonable situation...and make it worse?!

I got arrested for drink driving in 1993. I offered to walk home, but they still arrested me. I was drunk once outside a club. The police refused to let me get my stuff from the cloakroom, but let me walk off drunk. Which kind of seemed more dangerous as I could not get into my house as my keys were in the cloakroom. Luckily I was a student in halls so went and got the security guard to let me in and I slept in the living room of my flat. The man was dumb to run but I have also learned not to expect sense from drunk people (which is why I rarely get drunk outside of home - I don’t trust myself). The officer had several thousand options and went for the stupidest one. And why shoot somebody with a taser. Taser = taser.

I'm not sure....but Ive been blackout drunk hundreds of times with various interactions with the police...never been stupid enough to grab a weapon and run, no mater how drunk...in America you are asking to be executed if you do so. Now of course that doesn't make it right. Let him run off - you have his car it's not like he can drive and kill someone. Through his car registration you know his details etc. What a mess

Now of course that doesn't make it right. Let him run off - you have his car it's not like he can drive and kill someone. Through his car registration you know his details etc. What a mess I think it was his taser. But what you said is exactly the issue: in American you are asking to be executed. The fact that that is the norm, police escalating situations in order to carry out extrajudicial killings is a problem. And I have seen a ton of drunk men here and rarely have I seen the police escalate the situation to the extent that they end up shooting somebody (as they are running away - why shoot somebody running away?!) So yeah I agree with you on the last bit. The police’s actions made no sense when there were many other options available that would not result in death. I would have impounded the car and make him pay to collect it.

"as they are running away - why shoot somebody running away?!"
Possibly because he'd snatched a deadly weapon from him. Dunno really, they could have just called out the dogs and hunted him, old school.

It's your lot that think they're deadly weapons. I was agreeing with you. In this very particular set of circumstances.

You have this weird habit of saying something...and then accusing the person you are speaking to of saying it instead.
So weird.

I've only just read about this and watched the video.
What the fcuk is up with American police!!! Especially in the current climate ! why the fcuk did he have to shoot him in the back? I just don't understand it. How could he possibly be a danger?
An English Copper would have chased him on his bike.

I just have this image in my head now of a U.K. policeman chasing somebody on a bike and it’s very funny for some reason!

Not just his bike - he'd have a whistle as well.

He can't do that without a car. Hmmmm .... that's not really the way it works, is it? Matey had passed out drunk and was, we are told, causing an obstruction. Dibble turn up and breath-test him. He faisl and is arrested. The reason for the arrest is not to prevent him driving but so that he can do a blood test at the station, I think. In the UK the bloodtest is just grounds for arrest and further testing as the the roadside breath test is not, in itself, admissible in court unless you refuse to do the bloodtest later on at the nick. Dunno what the rules are in Gunland but that's probably the rationale.

“ Many people of goodwill, including many white people, have joined marches in the UK. Young friends of mine who have been on the marches tell me I should tread carefully writing about the issue because I cannot know what it feels like to be black in Britain. That is true. Yet....” Let me go right ahead and do it anyway! Let the gaslighting commence.
