MYbe Old Mike was taking a little to much inspiration from Hunter Thompson & his opening paragraph from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas “ We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive..." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?" Unfortunately for "Mad" Mike, it actually was rocket science.

I case anyone has any romantic visions of Barstow from reading their Fear and Loathing, I can confirm that it's now an ugly nothing of a town where the highways split. I once had an OK Mexican meal there, but that is as good as it gets. Baker, up the road towards Vegas, is even more charmless. The desert, meanwhile, is lovely if you get off the interstate. But there's absolutely nothing there.

I think that comes across in the book. When they picked up that hitch-hiker I laughed aloud on a packed train. One of my favorite reads, but a bit of druggy knowledge is absolutely necessary imho.

And Falwell Jnrs university now has a cluster of sick students after he said last week on Trump TV that the C19 was a ploy by the Dems to get Trump and that he was reopening Liverty U.
Well done idiot.

"Reporter" asks Trump why he isn't shutting down everything, including food stores.
“Obviously, we know anyone can spread the disease. Right? Unwittingly. So, why even have a few businesses open? Why not just shut everything down?”

I dunno. You could legitimately ask why we aren't doing what the South Africans have done and have a full lock down where non-essential people can't leave their houses except to go to the closest shop for essentials only. I'm guessing that there is a answer to that about infection density (there's a reason people talk about needing 60% infection rates for herd immunity); and there's an answer about how long and how hard of a lockdown people can handle before they go rogue and become irresponsible - which is also the question that's made about when the lockdown ends: they will almost ease the lockdown before the optimum time in terms of getting rid of the virus altogether. And then there's the question about why the entire country doesn't have a unified minimum level of stay at home order and there are still 10 states (all with Republican governors, incidentally) where people are gadding about doing basically whatever they want, infecting each other and - in 3 weeks time when there are no new cases in NY and California, coming to our states and infecting us all over again.
Of course, Trump probably has no answer to those questions because he's never thought them through.

rick - that is a difficult question for anyone to answer. Left Right or Centre.
It's a conundrum and impossible for any politician to answer. You're fcuked whatever you say.
One of the problems is - as andy points out - is the problem of re-infection by fcukwits who didn't at least try to self isolate
