Just been listening to BBC news about this poor girl and the inadequacies of UK food labeling rules. The UK's laws were mentioned constantly as if it is some national quirk that we indulge the death by anaphylactic shock of French teenagers on our nation airline and furthermore we trick them by pretending the product is French and therefore as wholesome as a garden snail or a tortured goose's liver.
Guess what?

It's just a shame that Brexit didn't come soon enough to save this poor girl's life.

Guess what? The European Food Information to Consumers (FIC) Regulation 1169/201 Yeah, guess what?? This is a massive file. Be more specific. Maybe if a large (English) organisation like Pret a Manger were to adhere to EU regs this wouldn't have happened.

Don't need to be more specific. That's where the labeling rules come from. Faileure

Y'know, to warn their people to cover their arses by making it clear to the consumer what's in the food.

Well, the EU regs say that you must list ingredient on pre-packed food but not on stuff prepared on the premises. That seems sensible but it relies on the provider being responsible and diligent. In fairness, I would say that there's just as much risk in a village cafe and it's got to be the customer's responsibilty to satisfy themselves that the food is safe. Hard, but there it is.

Over here they say if the food contains potential allergens such as nuts or milk products. Don't know if it's the law though.

You don't know the EU regs? I'm shocked.

They do the same here. Anywhere you buy food has notices. I don't really see how you can avoid contamination though. All it would take is the smallest trace of the allergen getting passed on (for those ultra-sensitive people anyway). It must be shit going through life worried about peanuts.

Yeah. I love 'em.
I worry that my grandchildren will have some allergy that'll force me to banish them from the house.
Kids can't be allergic to beer, shiraz or crisps can they?

I thank the heavens that I have not yet discovered anything I am massively allergic to (as opposed to having an intolerance.)
Although increasingly wine does not agree with me. If I ever become full on intolerant / allergic I don’t know what I’ll do. Maybe my lack of allergies is due to having a mom who made us go and play around in the dirt as a kid.

Do you prefer red or white? Tanins, perhaps.

Drink organic wine. Non-organic's increasingly full of glyphosates which are accumulative in the body.

Do you prefer red or white? Tanins, perhaps. I like both. Probably slightly more prefer red. Was fine when I was younger but now, old woman me, it just sits worse and worse with my stomach.

Red wine sometimes gives me what feels like the start of mouth ulcers. Not often full blown but just that irritation that signals one might be on the way. The wine seems to make my nose get blocked while I'm asleep, causing me to breath through my mouth (no laughing at the back), which leads to a dry mouth and allows the bacteria or virus or whatever to get a hold. So I might be slightly allergic to red wine in a mucusy sort of way. Dunno. That's the best theory I can come up with anyway.

Bit harsh, shurely, banishing the Grand Kids because they have an alergen? You could just wrap them in clingfilm when they visit. That would work I think.
