I'm sure there are lots of perverts and paedos in the catholic church but I'd be surprised if celibacy was the cause or, frankly, if there were more there than in any other walk of life. I don't think celibacy makes people do things they're not predisposed to. Dunno. I've never been celibate.

given the disproportionate amount of paedos in the Church and the vast number of victims I suspect they know they can join and get sheltered by the organisation, move round for new meat now and again if the heat is on. So celibacy in of its self wouldn't stop that, but the rape of nuns might end if they can simply marry.

Disproportionate? I don't know how you can tell that's the case. One is too many of course.

Cardinal George Pell has been found guilty of sexual offences in Australia, making him the highest-ranking Catholic figure to receive such a conviction. Pell abused two choir boys in the rooms of a Melbourne cathedral in 1996, a jury found. He had pleaded not guilty. www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-47366113

Abused? What, he told them off? Clipped them around the ear? Refused to let them play with their iPhones during service?
Bit of insight from ex-public schoolboys here please.

I hear that he only really got into trouble when he was spotted drinking consecrated wine in the vestry.
The horror! I assumed they all do that. Perk of the job, innit?

The writing is realy on the wall with this religion as anyone who says they will stay celibate for a god obviously have issues and in the mens case (the priest) have a history of abusing young boys where as the nuns have a history of being evil bastards to other females in their care and it seems to be a very common history...

I was about to say that being celibate doesn't necessarily equate to being dodgy and that all sorts of people are celibate. But then I started to question that. The kind of person who declares themselves celibate for non-religious reasons is usually a crank.

His five-week trial ended last December, when a jury found Pell guilty of sexual penetration of a child under 16, as well as four counts of committing an indecent act with, or in the presence, of a child.
The former choirboy told the trial that Pell caught him and a friend swigging altar wine in the priest's sacristy, which is a room used by the priests to change into their robes.
It was off-limits to the choirboys, who had slipped away from the choir procession at the end of mass.
The former choirboy gave evidence Pell had planted himself in the doorway and said something like "what are you doing here?" or "you're in trouble".
"There was this moment where we all just froze and then he undid his trousers or his belt, like he started moving underneath his robes," the victim said.
Pell then pulled one of the boys aside and pushed his head down to his exposed penis.
Pell then forced the other choirboy to perform oral sex on him before fondling him as he masturbated.
That former choirboy told the court that, two months later, Pell molested him in a brief incident in a corridor at the back of the cathedral after mass.
Which, of course, is all great fun for us - but not, of course, if you were one of the boys. Or indeed the ones who have not come forward because no one would believe them.

The Vatican's response was depressingly typical. Saying he was still basicly innocent until the appeals process has finished.

The Vatican's response was depressingly typical. Saying he was still basicly innocent until the appears process has finished. Two well known Australian conversative commentators are going hard defending a convicted paedophile (of course.) Because...well they know him and the man they know would never do such a thing. How do people get to that age and still think you can just tell a sex abuser by looking at them.

Catholic Clergy explained . .
There is a teaching in the catholic church that the young don't know their sexual orientation yet, so they might actually be gay,
and the priests are here to "guide" the youth into possible gayhood.

But unlike the Catholic structure, evangelical churches like the one I grew up in and have spent the past 13 years researching are largely self-governing. This means we’ve mostly lacked the kind of bureaucratic record that might prove systemic abuse the way it’s been documented in Catholic dioceses. Now, a report on a major evangelical denomination is changing all that. A joint investigation by two Texas papers, the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News, resulted in a three-part report revealing that over 200 Southern Baptist pastors, youth pastors and deacons were convicted or took plea deals for sex crimes over the past 20 years — leaving behind over 700 survivors. When the vast majority of rapes in the United States never lead to a felony conviction, these numbers suggest an astronomical level of violence. I should change the title to 'What is it about Christians' or better still 'what is it about religions'

Well you see, in our society there's this very important principle that's known as "innocent until proven guilty"... Wasting your time. voice is intellectually incapable of grasping that concept.

Utterly unsurprising that the extreme far left doesn't believe in due process in law for it's hated groups. Yup. justvan thinks the concept is creepy.
