Can't say I particularly liked anything he did, music-wise. Clever bloke for sure, coming from such an under-privileged background, and the wives he went through is nobody's business, so he must have had something going for him. Doubt if Woody Allan'll be at the funeral though.

I was amazed reading the obits that he had four Oscars, and also appeared to give up classical music to go back to jazz. But he was one of those people who - despite having a really impressive CV and skill set - was all over our TVs with most people not really knowing why he was that famous. I don't think many people actually went to LSO concerts.
