An occasional thread for overblown death announcements in the meeja for people you've either never heard of or who don't seem that big a deal. So, the inaugural snuffee, the subject of Breaking News on the BBC apparently. Nicolas Roeg. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46329949Never heard of him. Never heard of his films.

Don't look Now - is an amazing film - you should watch it Baloo - you may like it.
Performance was also good - in a completely different way. Captures London in the sixties - with a brilliant James Fox as a Kray type character and Mick Jagger as former rock star. Music by Ry Cooder - is fab of course.
(Jagger can't act to save his life - but he doesn't have to in this!)

You've probably heard of "The Man Who Fell To Earth". It wasn't nearly as good as it thought it was. And Bowie, while being a better actor than Jagger, is baffling. But it was interesting.

He directed Castaway too, I think?
Seem to recall enjoying it - Oliver Reed and Amanda Donohoe iirc

Ah. Here's one.. The long-serving peer and former member of the Bletchley Park codebreaking team, Lady Trumpington, has died at the age of 96. Sadly, her husband isn't called Donald. link

Still, someone knows her..
Tory MP Nusrat Ghani said: “She was a phenomenal woman and I loved meeting her.”

Also essential lone viewing for the adolescent boy, Walkabout. Indeed, we all knew Jenny would be getting her tits out, and the waiting was worth it 😀

"A former World War Two pilot who grew up in poverty and described himself as the "world's oldest rebel" has died. The son of RAF veteran and author Harry Leslie Smith tweeted to say his father had died while visiting him in Canada. The 95-year-old Barnsley-born campaigner and left-wing activist suffered suspected pneumonia while with his son John in Ontario. In a tweet, John said: At 3.39 this morning, my dad Harry Leslie Smith died. I am an orphan.'" www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-46370665I sincerely hope that last sentence was intended to be ironic. So, this old Canadian bloke's croaked it. Obviously a hero to the facts-and-research challenged BBC who fondly imagine that everyone in the RAF is a pilot. Still, RIP. Thanks for your service. Not sure your socio-political outpourings were quite so valuable but, hey.

He used to write in the Guardian sometimes. Sort of emotive waffling about the founding of the NHS and the wonders of socialism.

I see they've now corrected his trade to wireless operator. I'm sure some pedant pointed that out to them.
