You might have thought that Freddie Starr's death would merit a noticeable article on the BBC. Ah, but I had forgotten his relationship with Jimmy Saville.
And Max Clifford.

I felt a bit sorry for him. He always seemed a bit of a sad figure.

True. Man of his time perhaps. People used to laugh at anything back then. It's quite excruciating watching old "comedy" shows. He was too old for the alternative comedy thing and just went for end of the pier/gangshow zaniness. Which was, as you say, unfunny.

Be fair. I thought he was an unfunny cunt back then too.

But you somehow managed to sidestep youth, went straight from infancy to 'adulthood'. You said so yourself a couple of weeks ago.

Hahaha! Look at the BBC, damning the man after his death...
The "Tributes" are from
Bobby Davro Alan Sugar Jim Davidson a half hearted one from Amanda Holden Les Dennis Russ Abbott Some bird they have to say was "A bird off 'Allo 'Allo".
We're damning with the faintest of praise here.

But I have to admit that I was being too harsh: that thing he did when he mimed to a faulty recording was funny a couple of times but, like the bloke with the faulty microphone, you couldn't really hang a career on it.

His earlier stuff (imho) was funnier. But Starry starry night made me laugh - is that the one you mean? And of course his Hitler in wellies always gets me. I say always, but what I mean is when I youtubed it last week here, it made me smile again.
You know what? - nothing makes me laugh much any more, except maybe a bit of sharp conversation with friends. Few modern day comics make me laugh, and frankly I'd rather watch Starr while sitting with a splif in one hand and a glass of red in the other than listen to most of the new breed of (over-rated) comedians. Although I quite liked Bill Hicks, but he's dead.

I never saw the appeal of Bill Hicks. George Carlin on the other hand was a bit of a genius.
