Thinking of "sending migrants to cities", the weirdest thing happened the other day. The supposed logic of "sending the immigrants to cities" is that the cities are in the peaceful North, in places that don't have lots of immigrants, like New York and Chicago, so it spreads the burden*.

Well, whoever the idiots are sending the buses of immigrants, they sent some buses to San Diego. Which shows how utterly transparent the lie is. Because, obviously, there's no city as big as San Diego as close to the border with Mexico. It's fine (to be clear) although we have limited housing available here and they'd be better off in post-industrial mid-size town Iowa and Indiana where housing is plentiful and cheap. But it seems to be missing the supposed point.

* obviously, many places shipping the immigrants out, particularly Florida, don't actually have that many foreign immigrants, unlike the big cities, and the actual point - rather than rhetorical one - is to send them to places that voted for parties in favour of human treatment of non-citizens, to send some kind of message, to get those urban dwellers to realise what it's like to have foreigners living in their midst. Which is idiotic because the people voting anti-immigrant live in places like North Dakota or rural northern Florida or rural Georgia or rural Kansas, where the numbers of non-citizens is at the very lowest. But it does create the opportunity for people like Rick to make those trite and daft and incoherent talking points like the one above.

Every mayor is concerned about a rapid influx of unhoused people to their city. Particularly in California right now where there's a major homeless problem that mostly derives from long term cuts to essential support services across the country but coastal California is one of the few places in the US where you can be homeless year round so many of the homeless end up here.
