People love a health scare. Particularly when it involves foreign people so they can pretend to freak out while basically being safe. Ebola, MERS, SARS, Swine Flu. Even, back in the 80s, AIDS - because it mostly got teh gehs, they felt safe. It allows you to feel prejudice about other groups, too, which is always nice.

anyway, more importantly I've just got back from my short cruise to Rouen. But we couldn't get to Rouen as the flood water in the Seine was too high for us to get under a bridge. So they said we'll stop at Le Havre - but we couldn't as the dock workers at Le Havre were on strike. So we went to Honfleur - which,as mentioned, was fab. On the way home we had to faff around in a storm in the Channel for hours as the wind was blowing over 70 knots and we couldn't moor safely at Southampton until this morning.
And what they hadn't told us was that there had been 400 cases of Norivirus on the ship of the cruise that people were getting off a few hours before we embarked. So we were sanitising our hands before and after everything - including touching any books in the library etc. No mention of the Coronavirus. Still, mustn't crumble. I eat huge amounts of very good food and drank far too much red wine.

"Anxiety and misinformation related to the virus have fuelled anti-Asian prejudice, Los Angeles authorities said at a press conference."
And the media stokes and fans the flames of fear with their click-bait "reporting." This virus is a big money maker for them. Kahching!

Possibly 400 million to die in the UK, according to a medical expert in yesterday's Mirror. But unlikely he added. Wtf? "The current population of the United Kingdom is 67,753,812 as of Sunday, February 16, 2020," www.worldometers.info/world-population/uk-population/UK going to have to import a couple more people. Media playing it for all it's worth. Each new "report" is twice as bad as the previous one. What's the odd zero between friends?

Like salmon they'll flood here to die on the beaches. Bears will feast on them in the shallows. Flotillas of Chinese arriving to take selfies of themselves flapping around on the shore before croaking.

And still we have lost more people to falling trees than the Corona Virus since January... how will we ever survive ??

So, as I understand it...and I may be completely wrong, China stole the Coronavirus and let it go on the world to really bugger up their own economy.

You understand wrong. China's had a leak; the virus has escaped. One of the hazards of screwing around with this stuff.

Well that, of course, is what I thought. I was referring, as you know, to takemebacktolondon's article.

Still, according to our medical man here, voice, I'm a conspiracy-theory freak, so forget it.
When you read that some these viruses (like this latest one and swine fever) are most unlikely to mutate in such a fashion, that it looks like genetic modification, it reinforces my worst suspicions that man can be a not entirely benign creature, to phrase it as nicely as possible.

I read the first two lines of that article, then realised it was about a million lines long and decided to leave it alone.
If I were guessing it would include the "it's a bioweapon that escaped from the Chinese bioweapons lab in Wuhan that's close to the epicenter of the outbreak" theory.
Which would be odd, because it appears that there's nothing in the genome sequencing that makes it look like anything other than a natural mutation and apparently you can pretty much tell when something been bio-engineered. And if you were building a bioweapon, you'd build one a f**k of a lot better than this.

Which sort of highlights that if one's going to comment on a link, it's best to read it first.
I know it's irritating sometimes, especially when some posters spam the board continually, but this one (2) is actually quite pertinent.

I'm not going to read an article that long. Particularly not from a website called "Great Game India".
I'm saying that if it eventually leads to "it's bioengineered" then the article is bollocks.
If it doesn't lead there, perhaps someone can give a summary that I can read in less than a minute?
