US 2020 election

I fear two things in the next few months, either the GOP and Trump simply steal everything they possibly can in anticipation of a loss that will see for the first time in US history a non peaceful transfer of power, use of supporter militia and Barrs' secret police to try and hold power with force. That or they cheat to such an extent the election is meaningless and they claim a win anyway meaning your democracy will be effectively dead and the US will drift fully into authoritarianism and sham elections held simply to rubber stamp Trump, and then his family, will become the norm.

There is nothing special about US democracy that means it can survive the all out onslaught we are seeing for the GOP and Trump as they do anything they can to hold onto power.

Not wrong, but then what about all the unhealthy people, elderly, imunocompromised and so on, don't their votes count. no reason to gut the post office to stop them voting. And postal voting has been a secure and fraud free thing since the civil war, the only reason Trump and his goons are attacking postal voting is they think more dems will be using it and if he can subvert the democratic process via his gutting the post office he can keep his grubby hands on power.

And by attacking the post office he's carrying out a direct attack on the US constitution, a document the right considered almost religious in nature, though like most religions they conveniently ignore the awkward bits.

Well...

1) It's consistent with NZ's approach across the board. If Trump wants to have kids in school but not let people vote, that's clearly f**k*d up.

2) It's delayed by a month and remains within the term of the parliament. There doesn't seem to be a constitutional mechanism in the US.

3) The opposition was pushing for the election to be postponed - this is agreed on all sides.

But apart from that...

In the end its not up to him to delay elections, its the remit of congress, but even if he did get a delay he's only got a short time window because his time in office ends 12pm Jan 20th and no new president is elected by then they swear in President Polosi.

I've no idea what a Billy Porter is, nor why, but surely they're appealing to the pathetic nostalgia of the Boomer generation, getting out the votes of the nearly geriatric who remember Monterey and Woodstock and the Vietnam protests and the civil rights movement (even though they, themselves, weren't actually participants in any of this stuff).
