c) married to a woman 9 years older than him.

I'm not sure married to an older woman is inherently disqualifying.

You do have to wonder what kind of leverage he has to come top in the first ballot. He doesn't appear to be obvious leadership potential.

I suppose that Priti Vacant and Bad Enoch and James "Cleverly" all have characteristics that might be worrying to some Tories who don't want a repeat of Sunak and might think ethnicity was the cause of his problems. And they're obviously all terrible. But at they can't be as offputting as Jenrick.

And that leaves Tugendhat who's too sensible. And Mel Stride who seems to be such a non-entity I'd have guessed she was a singer in a manufactured girl band from the early 90s and I am surprised to discover is just another dull Tory bloke in a suit.

1) Why? Also isn’t better for a politician and law maker understand the law?
2) What does that have to do with his choice in spouse?
3) Would it be equally creepy / “lacking in effort” for his wife to be with him if he were 9 years older?

These are more critical things that paint a picture.

Lawyers can be OK. But he was an oily corporate lawyer doing M&A work in Moscow. Ick. Combine that with his oleagenous appearance and the fact that he's a Tory scum and you can see what kind of dodgy bloke he is.

Also, there's nothing wrong with marrying a particular Israeli - some Israelis are lovely people. But when you link it to being an odious right wing Tory who seems hell bent on power, you'd have to wonder if he actually likes his Israeli wife and it's not either a performance of loyalty to the ideals of right wing idiots, or he thinks he's marrying the country rather than the person.

Nothing wrong with having an older wife, any more than having an older husband.
