Did the memorial for my dad this weekend. Organ recital for him in the cathedral followed by some talks in one of the lecture theatres in college. Too much beer in the pub after. Then today my mum had about 40 of his ex graduate students and research team over for a drinks and food in the garden. Now I’m knackered and jet lagged and jump on a plane back west for 12 hours in economy class tomorrow. I did not know your father passed recently. My condolences.

It was around Christmas, but it took this long to organise the formal memorial thing. Anyway, thank you.

Been packing things up most of the weekend, ending the long weekend with a fire and whiskey.
Beautiful evening here, stars are out and it's crystal clear.

By "ending the long weekend with a fire ...", can I assume you're not on the Far Right and weren't torching your local hotels?

Knowing what I do about Western Canada at this time of year, I thought "ending the long weekend with a fire" meant everything was packed up neatly into boxes ready for collection by the moving company and then a forest fire came through and incinerated it all anyway so the packing was just a waste of effort.

We've had very few wild fires, for Western Canada, this year. I expect next year will be a return to normal.

30 miles into today's 45 mile bike ride, just as we were getting away from the traffic, my brain was elsewhere and I slammed straight into a speedbump while not thinking, went flying over the handlebars and now my knee is all bloody and stings like a mofo. I hate when I have bike accidents and don't even have a good story.

Walked around the beach in the rain this morning. Actually, it was okay and the dogs were happy to stretch their legs as.it's been poor walkies this week.
Had the floorboards up this afternoon to run in conduit for IT. My new gig requires a wired connection as it's quite data heavy and I had moved the modem upstairs for a better WiFi signal (top tip: the top of the staircase is the best spot as, generally, the signal only has to pass through wood and perhaps one wall, as opposed to several walls and the occasional chimney breast.)

Tried to go out and pick a few bits but got stuck cos I forgot the stupid Grand Fondo from Vancouver to Whistler was on today so loads of roads are shut. Every year it's a f**k**g mess, has to be the single stupidest place to have a bike race, we have one road and no alternatives, so we're effectively held hostage all Saturday. Worse still there is no benefit for the town what do ever.

Bollocks. The riders never get to ride those roads empty and safe, and they're beautiful roads. It's a great thing and they should do it on pretty roads more. It may be tough for you but I bet you get a ton of fair warning about it.
Is the route a loop? Or do they have to get rides back from Whistler?
