Not a weekend thing persay but my lad passed his motorbike test this morning, well the 3rd of 4 stages they make young drivers do here, full riding privileges, in 2 years if he keeps his nose clean he'll take the final test.

I've ridden bikes all my life since I was 16. I currently ride a 650 Suzuki Burgman.

There is no restriction here, he's been riding suzuki 850 on an L for 2 years, had a 250 for the first year, took him this long to get his N cos testing was cancelled for covid.
I've ridden since 16 as well, got a 950 yamaha Bolt (scr to Bolt conversion) at the moment. Though I'm restoring a 1978 Hondamatic 400 for Mrs Voice as she wants an automatic but not a scooter.

Old mustachioed men on big bikes - sort of weird. They crawl around here in gangs making lots of noise, sounding and looking threatening, but impotent.

Yeah. You see a lot of old fat guys with lots of facial hair riding loud motorbikes around here. Often wearing leather patches like they're members of dangerous biker gangs of the 60s and 70s. Except these guys - even if they wanted to get into a fight - are too fat and old and slow and unfit to be able to do it. Maybe some of them actually were in biker gangs once, but most are just living out a fantasy as part of a mid-life crisis and they go on big group rides which seems to completely negate the point of having your own solo motorbike. Also, a lot of the bikes are so big that you also negate the point of having a motorbike because you're basically 2/3 of the way to having a car, unable to get through gaps in traffic, or to park, but without any of the comfort or safety.

Yeah lots of those here, old fat blokes on loud, but sloooooowwwwew Harley Davidsons. Not my style at all. Also they love lots of chrome and only ride when the sun shines. Wankers the lot of em.

I have I mate I ride with occasionally who likes to say Harleys are yesterday's technology for tomorrow's prices.
Very expensive and inefficient method to convert petrol to noise with no go.

I saw some ageing mods the other week. They must have been the second coming of the mods (late 70s) because they all looked to be in their 50s.

Back in the sixties (1965 - 1970) Windsor was strongly divided between Mods and Rockers.
The Rockers were all parked up by a café on the water front by Windsor Bridge and the Mods had to get to the Ricky Tick further down the Thames.
Many a punch up on a Saturday night.

I would have thought all the Windsors would have been Mods. It’s hard to picture any of them in leathers and long hair. But sharp dressed and fighty sounds right for Margaret and Philip.
