I think describing the defacing of a statue of Fr Junipero Serra (who was responsible for the deaths of thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of native Americans) as "satanism" is pretty hysterical.

Freaking out about what Bud Light uses to sell beer seems pretty hysterical, and calling it "ladyface minstrel" is really really hysterical. Being upset about who is designing clothes for Target is hysterical. Melting down because North Face used a gay drag performer - hilariously named after one of their competitors (Pattie Gonia) = in a gag about "coming out... in nature" is completely hysterical.

Describing it all as "satanism" is hysterical.

i'm not talking about bud light. the bud lite thing is wokeism. i'm talking about the la dodgers using and promoting a satanist hate group the mocks Christianity. i'm talking about schools making young kids pray and chant to aztec gods. i'm talking about the feds banning priests from walter reed hospital. Catholic patients rely on those priests. if the school made kids pray to Jesus, you would be screaming separation of Church and state.

So, I've looked up the Aztec chant thing. It was actually banned a year ago for precisely the reasons Rick describes, even though many US public schools still carry a ton of Christian stuff, and say things like "one nation under god" every day.

Meanwhile, the chants were voluntary, and were not referencing deities but the concept of self-reflection and "the will to act" as part of an ethnic studies curriculum to demonstrate that there are different concepts in different cultures.

So, it's not religious, it doesn't happen any more, and is absolutely nothing to do with satanism. But, apart from that...

Does Rick, and do the Catholic Church, really believe that kids doing an Aztec chant as part of an ethnic studies curriculum where they learn about all kinds of various practices from the various more-indigenous people of the Americas, where the chant is describing the desire for self-reflection and that's how it's taught in the schools, will suddenly turn America's teens (who currently, reasonably, seem to be turned off of all religion) into a self-contradictory combination of worshippers of multifarious Aztec deities that nobody's worshipped in half a millennium, and also simultaneously, satanists?

Is that a real fear?

If it is, I think I have a word to describe it.

A word that begins with H. And finishes with ysterical.
