Prince Andrew has settled a civil sexual assault case brought against him in the US by Virginia Giuffre, court documents show.
Ms Giuffre had been suing the Duke of York, claiming he sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 17, allegations he has repeatedly denied.
A document submitted to a US court on Tuesday said the duke and Ms Giuffre had reached an out of court settlement.
It said he would make a "substantial donation to Ms Giuffre's charity".
The document stated that Prince Andrew had "never intended to malign Ms Giuffre's character" and that he recognised she had "suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks".
So what's our considered opinion?

Dunno. It's not a great "win" for her, is it? His mum made him do it.

Apparently she'd lost the original of the damning photo.

Not a great win for the Prince, is it? Settling as quickly as possible rather than letting any more sweaty pizza secrets get out.

His legal bill must be at least $250.00 by now - if not more!

The devil will be in the detail. I suppose, ultimately, we just need to know if he shagged her or not and if he knew she was underage.
This way, he gets to claim he did do anything wrong, while admitting that he knew and hung around with some horrible people, like Clinton. No days in court, no problems travelling to the State, although I expect he never will again.

He does appear to have paid an 8 figure sum in order to not have to have a court decide whether he's a nonce.

It's also interesting that Andrew is paying a significant sum to her charidy. Payroll, two. Her and her lawyer.
A cynic might see that as a way of paying compo without being seen to pay compo.

The bigger question is how much of the payout comes from tax payer money

Technically correct. Although the civil list paid for Andy's ski chalet. Which he sold at an inflated price to an unknown buyer, which is also almost certainly either the UK taxpayer or the monarch who is funded by the UK taxpayer. So really, we've probably paid for it twice, but in a discreet way.

Well, if it was before 2011, the point is moot.

"74-year-old de Rouvre reportedly sold Chalet Helora to the Yorks in November 2014 for 22 million Swiss francs – the equivalent to around £18 million. Andrew and Sarah allegedly took out a mortgage for 16 million francs (£13.25 million) to pay for the Chalet, with the remaining six million francs (£5 million) agreed to be paid in cash (with each member of the former couple paying half). When this sum initially remained outstanding, the Yorks reportedly made a deal with the French socialite to defer the payment by five years, until December 2019. At that point the pair were allegedly expected to pay eight million Swiss francs (£6.7 million),"
Doesn't seem right that horrible gits get to have so much, but, there it' is.
