The collapsed Kids Company charity was mismanaged, a watchdog has concluded.
The charity, set up by Camila Batmanghelidjh, folded in 2015 amid financial problems. A police investigation found no evidence of criminality or safeguarding failures.
A new report by the Charity Commission found Kids Company had repeatedly failed to pay tax and its workers.
This has come as a great shock ... to no one.
"no evidence of criminality" just utter incompetence.
I think it was Robin who said: "Holy incompetence Batman ghelidjh!"

She was rarely off the telly at one stage. BBC through and through.

I only saw her once, on Question Time, but immediately thought she was astonishingly useless. I am unsurprised to find that she wasn't criminal, just overwhelmingly rubbish.

It's depressing though that she and her team were so incompetent and yet there were bo sanctions and they basically been able to get the best legal support possible to make sure that there is no comeback, no price to pay.
It is remarkable that they could find no evidence that they had enriched themselves by this and yet I assume they all got paid handsomely and enjoyed all the fring benefits and perks.

She was absolutely feted to the rafters for decades though. Identity politics at its best.

As already mentioned, Ms Batmanghelidjh founded Kids Company in 1996, and worked full time for it thereafter. She drew a very modest salary until the final three years of the charity’s life, when a philanthropist sponsored an increase in salary. From the high court ruling.

Ah yes, a philanthropist.

But she was also an extraordinarily successful fundraiser for Kids Company, and developed influential relationships with a number of senior politicians as well as philanthropists.
from the high court.
So it would seem an extraordinarily successful fundraiser for herself, as well.

She does appear to have done a decent job for the kids who went through her programs. Or at least, she set up a system where that happened. Which arguably is a bigger benefit despite comically inept accountancy. Clearly she just shouldn’t be let near money.

Charity “set up in the name off” Cap’n Tom? Who’d have guessed that the people who decided to name their charity so cynically might, in fact, not have been all about doing the right thing.

I don't think she did do a good job. All the accounts seemed to say that cash was being handed over, willy-nilly, to the kids or families of kids who shouted the loudest.

I think running a successful charity is probably a hard thing to do. You'd need to be both level and hard headed and it's not really the place for well-meaning amateurs.

Yeah. It’s a sh*t job. It pays badly. It requires you to make decisions about which people in need you can help. You get arseholes who try and suggest you’re not helping people enough because you pay your staff.
And I really don’t know for sure if Kids Company did a good job, but have to assume that they were OK.
