A report by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) found that by next month, 23.4 million Britons will be short by more than £8,500 a year when it comes to paying for necessities such as heating, food and clothes.
I don't see this as an essentially British thing though, more a western civilisation thing. Maybe a war would sort things out.

"Half of Britain’s children will be living in families who can’t afford the cost of living by April this year, a new analysis warns, and they could be forced to go without essentials such as a baby shower. B. Putting dinner on the table."
Do they know what a baby shower is?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Economics_FoundationThey seem like a jolly enough bunch of dreamers. Fair play, but there's that little socialist niggle in there - the promise of unlikely shangri-la. A 21 hour week? That sounds like a bit more than many do at the moment.

I don't doubt things are got to get tough, economically. This, along with actual war in Ukraine, puts the left's usual talking points of "oh I was so offended in my £1 million house by something I read on Twitter..." woke rubbish into perspective. Let's do away with wokeness, while we help Ukraine.

Half? HALF?
Is the UK following in the US footsteps of becoming a third world country in a Gucci belt?

Ah that downhill slide into financial oblivion, it's good for you. Concentrates the mind on more simple things providing a certain perspective, a sense of serenity that would otherwise be lacking, sending the mind reeling into the most delightful of reveries.

It's food for thought. I wonder about the impact of the accessible "exclusivity" of branded goods. There was a time when people bought the most suitable goods that they needed or could afford. It seems to me perverse (and unhealthy) that we have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed into working to provide kit that we probably don't need and found which we pay a premium for the mark of some implied exclusivity or assurance of acceptability. It seems odd that those shorthand is so widely accepted.

It's ironic that left-wing fascists have turned a basically good thing - the 'waking up' to wrong-doing - into a weapon to attack the general public (or those that don't carefully measure their every word) and in so doing handed the hard right a means of attack.

That's what the left have become. Somewhere in the depth of their madness there was once a kernel of good but as those battles were won, they've struggled to stay relevant and so are reduced to making up bigoted guff about "whiteness" or whatever.

They'd be lost without the race issue so they need to feed it. This is done in a variety of underhand ways, the usual being to whip up conflict in the name of caring for your fellow, er, person.

The mistake they make is to claim the being a good bloke is the sole preserve of the left. I assume that this is because this has come to them late in life and because they are so desperate to be liked and to judge other people harshly.
