Great idea though, importing stuff that's produced 12k miles away when we've got a glut of it on our doorstep. Johnson and Truss - what could go wrong?

Sounds almost as sensible as paying farmers to produce stuff you don't needed year-in, year-out.

Which particular crop are you talking about? There's certainly a lot needs to change. For a start I'd reintroduce untaxed and uncontrolled farm casual work. It's seasonal and those on benefits have their allowances stopped the moment they take up work picking apples for a month or so. Then it's a hell of a job to get back on benefits.

Butter, milk, wine, beef, facsists, pederasts - you name it, the EU encourages overproduction of it.

That's not a bad idea. If you're on the dole but you're willing to do crappy, low-paid work for a month for a bit of extra cash then fine. Drives a bit of a coach and horses through the idea that to get dole you must be willing and available for work, since you'd still be on the dole. I'm sure that could be got around.

That's probably not far off the status quo anyway.

Goodness - I agree too.

You’re always wrong. This is one of those rare times you’ve decided to be right.

What happened to the wine lake and the butter mountain? Did the French steal them?

Your working. Not archaic economic philosophy. Relevant to today's market. Etc.
