In a parallel to the 79 revolution the oil workers have now joined the protests, some seeing this as a portent to a new revolution. Several weeks in, hard crackdowns, but still it's growing.

Maybe the beginning of the end, but they've been here before. I doubt there's much confidence amongst the potential rebels that they would be able to overturn the security apparatus.

Doubt it frankly. The last revolution was of the people against the Shah; this one's about womens' rights. It needs the army.

Very unlikely. This seems to be a convenient removal of a scapegoat, but the laws all remain on the books and all kinds of authorities can enforce them.
