Drought-stricken Arizona finally puts a stop to allowing Saudi Arabia to use their water to grow alfalfa for their cattle back in the caliphate. About freaking time. Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs announced the cancellation of a lease to a Saudi Arabia-owned company drawing water from state lands as the state grapples with reduced water supply.
“After inspections I ordered, it became clear that Fondomonte has been operating in default of their lease since 2016. I’m taking action where my predecessor wouldn’t and holding Fondomonte accountable. It’s unacceptable that they have continued to pump unchecked amounts of groundwater out of our state while in clear default on their lease,” Hobbs tweeted.
In addition to canceling the Butler Valley lease held by Saudi-owned Fondomonte, Hobbs announced the state would not be renewing three additional leases that expire in February. Hobbs, a Democrat, also called out her Republican predecessor, former Gov. Doug Ducey, for failing to take action as Fodomonte pumped unchecked amounts of water from Arizona land.
Fondomonte, which grows alfalfa to feed dairy cows in Saudi Arabia, leased the land from the state under Ducey’s administration, paying below-market rates. According to an investigation done by the Washington Post, the state was unaware of how much water the company was pumping from beneath the ground even as Arizona faced drought conditions.www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/west/arizona-ends-saudi-land-leases/

There's a lot of whining - justified - about the amount of water California uses to grow almonds and pistachios, and Arizona uses to grow pecans.
But the thing with those crops is that there aren't many other places that they grow.
California and Arizona go through ridiculous amounts of water growing things like alfalfa and grass and wheat which grows pretty much anywhere on the planet. I find it much, much more wasteful and it makes me much more angry than the almond groves.

"The PM announced the money last month as part of plans to scrap part of the HS2 high-speed rail line and spend the savings on other projects. The funding will go to England's local councils over the next 11 years for road maintenance. Councils said the cost of repairing local roads was closer to £14bn." www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67441085In my beginning is my end. FFS how lame is this? We pay Road Tax* and Council Tax every year for our roads to be maintained and they clearly haven't been. Now we're supposed to be grateful that money that won't be wasted on one money pit is being handed over to another money pit: local authorities and their cosy relationships with outsourced contractors. I see that the public sector cunts are already saying that this isn't enough. Corruption. Total corruption. *actually VED goes to general taxation nowadays.

Tories, corrupt to the core.
It's stark just how venal and self serving they've been during my time away, it's like being in an Eastern European country in the mid 1980s.

They are cunts. There are a couple of potholes near me, right in the middle of a lane so it's hard to avoid them. They were there for ages and filled in a couple of months ago. Whatever they used to fill them in is completely gone now and they don't even have yellow paint around them to remind you that they're there.

I have a theory. In council's long term planning, they were advised that global warming would mean no cold winters and so the roads would fair better and need less repairing. The councils then adjusted their budgeting accordingly so there's less money now to spend repairing them. Also, they're wasting billions on woke shit.

I woke up this morning to find a fountain of water higher than the house from to bust water pipe under the road, been like that since the early hours, no action to do anything about it so far. It's a fine example of failed tory governance, wasteful inept and ineffective.

Now we're supposed to be grateful that **** money **** that won't be wasted on one money pit is being handed over to another money pit: local authorities and their cosy relationships with outsourced contractors. Replace with "a small bit of the money that's left after a ton was spent purchasing overpriced requisitioned farmland from Tory donors in the the South East and a ton more was spent on Tory donors who created all kinds of overengineered products and Tory donors who produced all kinds of hyperexpensive noise and environmetal surveys and decided that lots of money needed to be spent so very rich Tory donor landowners in the southern part of the HS2 route would not even notice a train vaguely in their vicinity.

It sounds like a rubbish joke but in town today, I heard a woman shout "Behave, you son of a b|tch!" at her dog.
Not much of an insult to a dog.
