My inaugural topic: why have men stopped standing with their arms behind their backs? I haven't seen anyone do that for years.

Though slightly related, I noticed when I was in England last year, angry drivers seldom appear to use the two finger salute any more most appear to prefer the raised middle finger salute preferred by our American breatheren

I'm always on the left...
Actually what struck me the most driving there again was just how slow and congested the motorways all were, speed cameras everywhere, just huge volume of traffic and a lot of angry drivers trying desperately to get just one car ahead as if it would make any difference

Sometimes called The Wolf or The Horns (if jabbed forward), that gesture is frequently used in Mediterranean cultures to imply that its target is a cuckold. To read about this and more besides, I can recommend thoroughly the book Gestures by the great Desmond Morris, who is still active even though this is his 96th year - the same bloke who wrote The Naked Ape, The Human Zoo and (my favorite of his) Manwatching. |
