Normal people often forget the divisions amongst the posh, there is a whole other hierarchy in that 5% of people who occupy what normal types call posh. I can't remember which one exactly, think it was Osbourne, who the other mega posh and rich Tories called 'peasant' cos he didn't go to Harrow, despite him being as filthy rich and gauche as the rest of them. Yep - to me they’re just all Posh. Hadn’t realised there was a posh hierarchy.

I'm not sure you've been to Britain before. The entire society runs on the principle that - unless you're the monarch, and even then I'm not sure - there are people posher than you who you pathetically look up to, and there are peasants to look down on. That's the whole point of the class structure. Even among Etonians there's still stratification.

Anyway, Draper lost and wasn't of the same standard as Sinner but played pretty well.

The royal family (the most senior members) and all other posh people are in the same category of posh.

Has the entire British class structure passed you by?

Has the entire British class structure passed you by? Working class background. What happens in the world of posh people is another planet to most working class people.

Hogwash. Your working class who had a trade and a salary looked down on the cleaners and so on. Your working class farmers looked down on the working class farmhands. The genuinely uneducated and unemployable get stratified down. Your foreigners and your roma get stratified down. There are strata all over the British working class. If you're unaware of that, is it like a a fish who's unaware of the water it swims in?

Why are you talking about stratification among working class people when the topic is posh people? The world of poshos is completely alien to me. No idea what groups you lot divide yourselves into to. I just see posh people as all one group of posh. It’s why I agree with Voice’s point. It’s bemusing to see discussions such as this where posh people discuss different levels of poshery. They’re just all one posh group from where I’m standing.

You seemed to be saying that because you are yeoman working class that you didn't understand that there was stratification within the class. The whole point of the class structure is that it's everywhere and infecting everything and everyone. It's one of the most f**k*d up things about Britain. Outsiders really don't understand it, either. Talk to Americans about "Middle Class" and they think it just means "someone with a job" and they can't distinguish between class and wealth/income. They are baffled at the concept of the broke aristocracy.

Not around any posh people to be aware of any distinction.

Tbf every class is heavily stratified, not knowing this is weird
The British class system is the main reason I left to live and work overseas most of my adult life and finally settled here. It has no redeeming qualities, but is so entrenched, it's here to stay.

I don’t know anything about posh stratification and I see no reason why I would / should. Zero relevance to my life.

I think it's far, fat deeper than class. We are a highly tribal society and are astonishingly alert to both diffeeience and common ground. We are constantly analysing the way people present themselves, and are very attuned to their outlook and background. Class isnoy a part of it, albeit one with many layers of its own.
We look at the way people dress, whether they look like they are athletic, how they speak, their sense of humour, whether they are confident or humble, what music they listen to.
I think this might be why we despise affluence signalling: it's sort of cheating and it doesn't matter.
