I think this is possibly why we prize "the common touch", not least because it demonstrates a mastery of these skills ans the ability to apply them in a good way.

It's from the bottom to the top at all levels scum through to posh. I am talking about the posh stratification amount posh people. Don’t know about it, don’t care about it. I leave posh people to that debate among themselves.

Funny how you didn't mention England getting beaten by Sri Lanka in the boys' cricket this morning.
I want England to win everything, generally, but I think it's healthy that teams other than India and Australia are able to win against the supposed big boys.

Letting them win one game every 10 years is very generous of the lads & maintains the interest in SL…😊

How did the Afghanistan Ladies (English XI) get on? Did they manage any better than Afghanistan Ladies (Australian XI)?

None of you lot will even understand the words in this post, but:
Yesterday, the Padres clinched their wild-card spot. Not only that, but they did it against the Dodgers - not just local divisional rivals, but also a team the Padres traditionally get trounced by. Not only that, but they did it with a triple play in the bottom of the ninth, which was absolutely magnificent.
Even more amazing, after only going 50-50 in their first 100 games, if they sweep LA by winning the next two games they'll actually lead the division and have a chance of automatically moving forward rather than going to the wild cards. It's been a pretty incredible late season having won 41 of their last 57.

Is this the summary of a DPP enquiry into kiddy fiddling in the Catholic Church?

I understood every word of your post, Andy.
Admittedly not what they meant in that order...

The only reason I'd want LA to reach the playoffs (which they will) is so Ohtani finally gets to play in the post season. Last week he became the first player to reach the 50-50 club (HRs and steals) in what may have been the best game for a batter ever. I saw on some graphic a list of things he did in the game. No other player has done all of them in a career, he did them all in one game.

Ohtani is incredible. But he's playing for the bad guys. It would be entertaining if the Doggers paid a fortune for him and then the rest of the line-up would fail.
It's bizarre that he's basically a pitcher and we're living in the dreadful DH era and he's too injured to pitch so shouldn't be playing at all, and yet he's having one of the best seasons ever.

He's both, but a better hitter than a pitcher (and he is a good pitcher).

Is this some homage to SOE messages to the French resistance?

Bah. Unsurprisingly, but sadly, the Padres lost to the Dodgers in the Divisional Series. 3-2, which is tighter than I expected, but it's a shame to lose - particularly to the odious evil empire.

I did a half marathon in the Peak district today. Quite tiring.
