It isn't up to the complainant to decide when or when not to prosecute. Complainants are typically not versed in the Law, decisions on whether a case is warranted (and which should also have a high chance of securing a conviction) being left up to those who are. In severe cases, if the complainant is summoned to Court in support of the prosecution, they themselves can then be charged with Contempt of Court if they subsequently do not show. There is a distinction between prosecution and proceeding with wanting to press charges surely? It’s why so many perpetrators of DV can get away with it for so long due to lack of a complainant (although of course even a willingness to press charges will not guarantee the CPS will proceed.) (Although that’s separate to the question of why the Far Right is more obsessed with this than the alleged victims.)

Ok I clicked and have confirmed - he is wrong and also trying to derail the Wallace discussion with a classic “LOOK OVER THERE!” The “Whataboutery” that comes into play when white men are accused of sex pestery by the likes of O’Neill (who is just worried because he does the same) is something to behold. (Also Sky News, decidedly not on the left, have been making a huge story of this too. It’s almost as though rich powerful people tend to make the news. How odd.)

The bizarro thing from the right is that they'd have a meltdown if the BBC didn't self-flagellate over a BBC presenter being a sex pest and now they're having a meltdown because the BBC is self-flagellating about a BBC presenter being a sex pest. They can't help themselves from going into puce bundles of tantrummy rage over the most trivial things, however those things are reported. They have almost as little personal agency over their wailing hissy fits as BBC presenters seem to have about inappropriate sexual behaviour. Well this. The Whataboutery is just trying to find an angle to criticise the Beeb. O’Neill assumes everybody is as thick as he and his supporters are.

Forgive me butting in here - ref the top of this page. van is not clueless. She is an important member of this board and should be respected. I know she can look after herself - but it's ok to say that someone's views are bollocks but don't attack them personally. You are a sweetheart but honestly I cannot take seriously insults from idiots so no defence needed! It’s like being offended by a blind person telling you they don’t like the way your hair looks. (Also like “chippy” and “uppity” calling non-whites “thick” is just a go to insult from white racists so easily ignored.)

Starmer. On the ropes, again.
"Sir Keir Starmer has refused to give more information about why Louise Haigh resigned as transport secretary last week.
Haigh stepped down after it emerged she had pleaded guilty to a fraud offence a decade ago, a conviction she reportedly told Sir Keir about in 2020, when he appointed her to his shadow cabinet.
During Prime Minister's Questions, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch asked why the prime minister had appointed a "convicted fraudster" as his transport secretary.
Sir Keir said Haigh had been right to resign "when new information came to light".
But, when asked by Badenoch for details about the new information, he replied: "I'm not going to disclose private information.""

If I had said that when Rayner and Burghardt bloodied each other's noses at PMQs t'other week, you'd have come back with something like, "Why? Is it blob week?" or similar.
Such is beneath me, obvs.

But, when asked by Badenoch for details about the new information, he replied: "I'm not going to disclose private information."" The new information was that she was going to make it harder to push through the third runway at Heathrow
