You're shocked at some of the police being dishonest and irresponsible?
I thought I lived a sheltered, insulated life, but... wow.

Nah. A policeman being so dishonest and irresponsible. And thick. And petty. Where are they getting these people from? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! I have heard of being sheltered but this is “raised in Fritzl’s basement” levels of being sheltered from the real world.

I don't think you get the point. You might hope that these are traits that would be both selected out and unlikely to attract such an individual to the job.

TBH, it depends very much on what they accessed the data for. If it was just out of interest, that would be understandable.

Gross Misconduct. “ Five serving officers and two who have resigned were found to have accessed the information with no proper policing purpose. All of the serving officers under investigation have been placed on restricted duties.”

Anyone in healthcare who access records of patients they have no direct contact with will be fired if caught.

Well, they have been done for breaking the rules, that's true. I expect the rules were made to prevent people using that info for improper purposes or fraud, rather than casual interest or natural nosiness. Or, indeed, reasonable profession interest.

The rules are in place for good reason, trying to downplay their rule breaking as just curiosity is silly. They knew the rules, knew the consequences yet thought they were somehow exempt, so really too thick even to be Dibble, a low bar at the best of times.

Casual nosiness is still a problem. It’s about confidentiality. Anyway they would have known the rules when they decided to break them. Screw ‘em. (There also really is no “reasonable professional interest” for them to access these records.)

Yeah, but you're a fool so you're gonna blame what ever you don't like on something you don't like

Yet again, we see cos getting into trouble for silly, petty reasons. Of course the rules exist for a reason, and there have been countless cases of Dibble feeding the Press, or looking up people's details for personal profit. I suspect that there was a witch-hunt here because the perp was one-off their own, and there was immense political pressure from Khan.

Also, of course there's a reasonable professional interest. They're policemen. There was no policing purpose.
