I'd put Bush and his supporters on a par with a troupe of chimpanzees. You just insulted 50% of America's population, and we're now very pissed off about it, so all 160 Million of us are gonna kick your ass!

Bush will be well below Nixon, whose bad rep stems mostly from being impeached. Nixon was not bad, Bush was far worse.

Eh, depends, Bush's first four years were okay (though he should have pushed "The Button" on 9/11). In the second term he dropped the ball on Katrina, it was all downhill from there, the price of oil went through the roof and the economy tanked. On the up side, he did put the mechanisms in to stop the Al Queda motherf**kers from attacking us again, so it's a mixed bag.

Yep, Bush's first four years were "ok" at best, his 2nd term a disaster. Probably the main reason there were no subsequent terrorist attacks on US soil is because they were drawn to the fight in Iraq.

I totally agree with Marshall on Nixon. The modern interpretation of the Nixon Presidency is totally fixated with Watergate and Nixon's role as a "crook". Well, he may have been a crook (close sources will say all Presidents have their own obsessions, and the only outwardly "normal" President was Ford, who wasn't all that great), and one cannot mention the Nixon without mentioning Watergate because it's so central to his Presidency. However, there were numerous achievements during Nixon's tenure that are now largely forgotten. Contrary to Bush, Nixon was intellectually superior to those around him, and was a policy heavyweight with greater depth of knowledge than his critics could shake a stick at. And Nixon was well liked throughout his Presidency until Watergate. Nixon's mistakes cost HIM the presidency (just as Clinton's most serious flaws were entirely personal); Bush's mistakes will affect the country for a long time to come. It should be easy to evaluate who is worse. Bush should be well below Nixon.

After 9/11/01 you couldn't find anyone who thought there would not be another attack on the US during Bush's term, yet over 7 years later there hasn't been. W I think will be in the top 20 He is #1. A war time president who ushered in a new era of American domination of the world. Welcome to the American Century! God Bless President Bush!

Bushs failure to secure our borders and his slavish obedience to corporate interests over those of the common man has ruined his presidency. Foreign policy wise he has done well except in diplomacy , there is a right way and a wrong way to tell your allies to get in line and shut the feck up , Bush handled this very poorly.

Histopry will rank him well down, he lost an opportunity after 9/11 to go for those who were realy resonsible, yet he chose to tidy a mess laft by his dad in Iraq, and tried usuing 9/11 as an excuse even though Saddam had nothing to do with AQ, in fact AQ hated Saddma as much as Bush did and proberbly rejoiced when he was gone, the debalkle of Iraq has created a much more unstable world and created far more terrorism than there ever was, and because he didnt see the real problem to the end Afghanistan, the Taliban are resergent and drawing in more recruits than ever befor. He was a simple man who only saw simplke solutions and simple problems, with us or against us bullshit all the way, as an intelectual migit he was unsuited for the job, and consiquently did a very poor job.

Very Very poorly I would think. One of the benefit's of History is being able to cut away the "spin" of the time and look at things with a more open view. That's the benefit of hindsight. And what will the history books see? A president who left with an economy in shatters, An avoidable war in Iraq, Failing to find Bin Laden and a President who threw away the good will to the USA of the world after 9/11. Not a good legacy.

History will rank Bush several million places above Brown, the worst leader the Western world has ever known.

Bush's legacy will basically be Iraq and Afganistan, both of which are still in the balance. I think a lot of it will depend on how Obama handles them. If 10/15 years from now they are sucessful self-governed democracies I think Bush's legacy will be less bad than it feels now. I think it's easy to get trapped in the moment but a lot of Bushisms and stuff will be forgotten in a few years.

I think that Bush did the best he could. Bush wasn't a master strategist in my view and should have been more diplomatic in the world arena regarding making good allies. How he is ranked in America and how he is ranked by the rest of the world will be two different things, I think. He came across as a home town boy and that may be ok in America, but the rest of the world may have liked him to show a little more concern, even if it were contrived. I haven't enjoyed his Presidency much, but I don't consider him to be a bad man. He had some big problems in his time and made the best job he could.

I'd put the mental faculties of oneofthelessergods on par with prokaryotes. Strange view. The definition of strong mental faculties appears to have been rewritten and now reads "Agrees with PatrioticKiwi". I mean I think OOTLG comes out with some stuff so bizarre I have to assume he's kidding, but it's hard to deny he's a smart lad.
