The 72-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of four charges of rape following an eight-day trial at the High Court in Edinburgh last month. The case had chilling echoes of Josef Fritzl's incest regime in Austria. Today the woman who gave birth to the children, his 42-year-old daughter, said she hopes he 'rots' in jail!

14 years doesn't seem right for that appalling crime though does it! Makes my blood boil. It will take his victims longer than that to get over it, if they ever manage to!

They should at least make sure he dies in jail. He probably will but there's a chance he'll get out alive.

Jails are too comfortable a place for monsters like him. A small, cold, rusty wire cage would be more apt!  |

A nasty man to be sure. I was however somewhat disturbed by the admission by his eldest daughter who bore him a daughter and a son, that she told the boy who his father was during an argument. He's Scottish there is no chance he's getting out of Jail alive. Yeah 14 years is feck all but he will die there. You do know Scotland have the "best" health record of any European country  |

Surely with the legal system in the UK he will be out if he behaves himself in prison, or at least parolled! Hopefully word will get round in prison and he will get a pasting inside! That usually is the case isn't it.

Libby with good behaviour you can get half time, thats still 7 years...will he make that? IN PRISON!? hmmm. you are right though, unless he is in a separate ward he will get the hardest time of his life for the next 7 years, which is why i presume he wont leave alive.

indeed. what i think is good stuff about the fritzel case and i hope will remain about this c*nts case is that the kids are never really talked about, they arent shown, they arent harassed..good stufff. It must be seriously messed up stuff for them.

The man is 72.
In 7 years he'll be 79.
Probably won't know who he is by then.
But I'm still very disturbed that his eldest daughter was in her 40s before she decided to tell anyone.

No one will every really know why she took so long.
Shame and fear would be good starting places.
I heard on the news that he took his daughter shotgun shooting once and told her if she every spoke about the abuse he would shoot her and claim the gun misfired.

There was undoubtedly a mixture of fear, shame.
But she produced two children.
She shared her sex partner with her sisters.
Then she used the truth of her son's father against him in an argument.
Given what has happened here and the length of time it went on, another question is just how common is this sort of behaviour?
We know it happened in the North of England. It happened in Austria. Now North Scotland. All very different societies.
Just how many families are there where fathers and daughters are long term sex partners?
And how many children are being produced?
The latter is possibly more important.
