Can't get sound right now. What's the commonality - big crowds of people?

Deification? Nah! On the contrary, I would interpret comparisons with the Hajj (Islam's Nuremberg Rally) as an insult. After all, unlike at Nuremberg or Mecca, the Washington crowd were not fanatics baying for the blood of Jews or Americans or anyone.

I presume the comparison is a great number of people come to 'worship' .

Reminds me of an American actor called Dirk Benedict. He is most famous for being in the original Battlestar Galactica and The A team.
He arrived on the set of Big Brother and some drunk guy says, 'Well if it isn't Dirk Fuckin' Benedict'!
To which Benedict replies, 'I never use my middle name'.
