My best friend was involved in diversity training when she was working for a large investment bank, on account of her being both an ethnic and a lesbian and therefore a real catch for diversity work group purposes. Apparently you get a bunch of people in a room and talk about what it's like working there As A Black/Disabled/Transvestite/Etc person and then everybody mulls over how everybody else feels and leaves with a new-found sense of love and harmony.

Mr GG is a firefighter and most firefighters do not really have a problem with handing out leaflets wherever. There are a few double standards in the fireservice that annoy people in the service though.
For instance - In the West Mids the Chief Fire Officer handed in his notice, hours before he was attested for possessing kiddie porn on his Lap top that had been stolen. He has been charged with making and possessing kiddie porn. The content was so sickening that the thief actually got someone to hand it in to dibble! The Chief was warned by someone in the Police Force that he was about to be arrested and so resigned. The resignation was accepted by the Fire Authority which basically guaranteed his pension. He is currently on bail and has recently found god.
I would have though the national press would have found this more news worthy than a couple of fire fighters getting arsy about handing out leaflets to gayers.

I see no reason why anyone should be forced to attend a gay parade in uniform, even if it is to just hand out leaflets on fire safety.
Your attendecne at such a polotical event ensures that you are being seen to have the "correct attitude and show how much you are on message" with the poltical views of the parade.
I have no interest in whatever two poofs or anyone of any persuasion else gets up to in their beds as it is none of my business, however, I too would object to being made to appear as if I supported their political parade.
As for the idea that they would refuse to rescue a gay from a fire etc is plain nonsense.

Hmm. If they'd been asked to go to a BNP rally and hand them out and refused, I wonder what would have happened.

Nothing would have been said if they refused to go to a BNP rally, because that is something that would never happen.
Can you imagine the headlines; "Fire Brigade Supports BNP".
